We are thrilled and honored to share that our Executive Director, Courtni Bridges, met with Senator Tan Parker this week to discuss collaboration on Bee’s Law - a landmark piece of legislation that will mandate autism-specific and trauma-informed training across the Texas judicial system by 2027.

“Bee’s Law” was born from the lived experiences of children whose voices were dismissed simply because they were neurodivergent. It represents our shared mission: ensuring every child, regardless of ability, is met with understanding and justice, not bias or disbelief.

Senator Parker’s dedication to protecting vulnerable Texans aligns deeply with our purpose - and this partnership marks a vital step toward transforming how our courts serve children with disabilities.

Together, we’re not just changing policy.
We’re shaping a justice system that sees every child.

Stay tuned ❤️

1 in 8 children caught in prolonged custody battles will experience depression or suicidal thoughts.

Let that sink in.

Family court isn’t just a legal process—it can be a traumatic experience for the children trapped in the middle. When custody litigation drags on for months or even years, children are often left confused, voiceless, and emotionally overwhelmed.

At In Re: the Children, we advocate for reforms that put children’s mental and emotional well-being at the center of every custody decision. Children deserve stability, protection, and a system that sees them as more than evidence in a courtroom.

It’s time to ask: who is truly protecting the child?

Join us as we push for transparency, judicial accountability, and support for families navigating this broken system.

Because behind every court order is a child just trying to feel safe.

📣 Welcome to In Re: The Children 💙
A nonprofit born from lived experience and fueled by purpose.

My name is Kadi Mayo, and I was once just a child caught in the chaos of a complex custody case—In the Interest of P.D.M. and K.E.M. (2003) https://law.justia.com/cases/texas/second-court-of-appeals/2003/14961.html —a Texas appellate decision still cited in family courts today. That case was about me. I lived the consequences of a system that often prioritizes procedure over protection, power over people, and silence over truth.

Now, as an adult and advocate, I created In Re: the Children to shine a light on what too often happens in the shadows:
❌ Children ignored.
❌ Parents silenced.
❌ Families broken—not by dysfunction, but by flawed court decisions.

💡 Why We Advocate

We speak up for the children who can’t.
We stand with the parents who feel powerless.
We fight for reform in a system that desperately needs transparency, accountability, and heart.

🛑 The family court system is meant to protect children, not traumatize them.

But thousands of families—especially vulnerable mothers, special needs children, and survivors of abuse—are being re-victimized in courtrooms across the country.

✅ Our Goals:

Raise awareness of the family court system’s impact on children

Advocate for judicial accountability and legislative reform

Provide hotlines, legal resources, and financial aid contacts

Create a platform for survivors to share their stories

Build a community of support, education, and hope

✨ Your voice matters here. Whether you're a parent, advocate, survivor, or supporter—we welcome you.
