This is what COMMUNITY is all about!
I am often asked how I feel about groups of people in our communities. When people ask, it seems like they are looking for one of two things: for me to support people's rights, or to attack people they disagree with. Unfortunately, it seems like there is too much "tearing down" of other people. Most social issues in politics turn into battles over taking away someone's rights because someone else disagrees with them.
I'm not interested in that kind of politics. I'm not interested in letting our differences be used as a reason to take away anyone's human rights. I strongly believe that leaders in Minnesota should be protecting rights for everyone and guaranteeing equality for everyone in our state. Yes, we can disagree about social issues. Yes, we can hold our own opinions. But our freedoms do not give us the right to deny anyone else's humanity.
In June, as many Minnesotans celebrate Pride Month, I am reflecting on the equal rights guaranteed to all Minnesotans, and the never-ending work to protect our rights and equality.
