Federal legislation & policy need to change to unleash US OEM's to actually compete globally.

Column: "U.S. automakers need to think harder about why so much of the rest of the world doesn’t want their vehicles — and what that means for their long-term prospects.

Ford and General Motors built their U.S. businesses around large vehicles too expensive or too big for many overseas markets. They carefully devote production capacity to the most profitable vehicles for the North American market — again, big gas-guzzlers such as the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Tahoe. At times, they have come close, but they never really figured out the secret sauce for building smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles that are attractive abroad and help Honda, Hyundai and Toyota compete here.

This violates the legal concept of "ex post facto", meaning after the fact. Pre-existing modifications would be punished under this proposal.

If the proposal makes it to law, modifications that raise tailpipe emissions for any reason will become illegal

A bill has been filed! Texas HB 2957.

It stalled in committee. We will be re-filing for the next session.

This bill aims to correct the arbitrary impediments of HB 4122, which haphazardly prohibited lane filtering, increasing risk of injury and mechanical failure for motorcyclists.

Contact your representative and let's put the spurs to it and restore freedom of mobility.

This is unacceptable both legally and commercially.

Any single type of vehicles cannot be regulated against as it would set bad legal precedent and eventually harm every motorist in one way or another.

"Banning rentals" as some in the comments mention only harms lawful businesses and their employees.

Legally speaking, waterways are public thoroughfares. They are a equivalent to roadways.

Furthermore, for the record:
Texas residents born on or after September 1, 1993, must complete a boater education course to legally operate a motorized vessel or rent a watercraft.

Yes! This is a good thing.

In the short term, it allows people the flexibility to enjoy their machines.

In the long run, it clears the path for OEM's to design to this use case.

The right to repair is essential to freedom in private transportation.

The White House has released a Presidential Memorandum — "Promoting the Freedom to Fix" — regarding conducting emission-related repairs that directs the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide guidance, increase clarity for aftermarket manufacturers, and allow individuals to repair their own vehicles in good faith.

This memo, along with the recent Federal Trade Commission settlement on agricultural right to repair, indicates the strong support the right to repair issue has at the federal and state level. The AMA will continue to monitor right-to-repair efforts and work to ensure motorcycles are included in any new guidance.

Ownership mean owning it. The u constrained right to repair is a pillar of ownership.

The U.S. House Energy & Commerce Committee has advanced right-to-repair legislation as part of the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act.

The bill would make existing agreements between automakers and the independent repair industry enforceable under federal law—ensuring access to critical diagnostic and repair data.
While this marks progress, the current version is narrower than originally proposed, leaving out key telematics provisions important to the aftermarket.

SEMA remains neutral as the legislation moves forward.
