Who is the Black Fund of Central Texas?

Throughout history, systemic barriers have forced Black-led organizations to operate in scarcity and survival mode.

Founded by Kendra Garret, Meme Styles and, Dr. Colette Pierce Bernette in 2020, the Black Fund of Central Texas makes a clear statement that investing in the Black community is critical, both right now and for generations to come.

The Black Fund of Central Texas exists to help harness the power of Black-led organizations and elevate solutions that strengthen the Black community, creating ripple effects that benefit the broader community and economy of Central Texas.

We invest in organizations across five impact areas:

-Arts Culture and Preservation
-Education
-Health & Wellness
-Power Building, Organizing and advocacy
-Wealth Building

At the Black Fund, we believe that if we invest in Black-led organizations by creating a fund that helps all Black leaders thrive, then Black-led organizations will scale, we will have an equitable system in which Black people can thrive, leading to a more sustainable community that benefits all people.

We are searching for an Executive Director!

Since 2022, The Black Fund has granted more than $1.25 million to the community. Now we’re seeking a bold, community-centered executive who can build on that foundation, deepen relationships, and secure the resources to expand its impact.

This opportunity calls for a builder with vision and follow-through: someone who brings proven startup nonprofit experience, strong people leadership, and
the grit to turn ambitious goals into measurable results.

Fundraising must be a demonstrated strength. We’re looking for a leader who can cultivate donors, secure significant funding, and turn relationships into sustained investment in Black Central Texas.

Equally essential is the ability to listen, earn trust, partner with the board, and lead with both confidence and accountability. Deep knowledge of Austin and lived experience within the local community are strongly preferred.

The right leader will honor what the community has built while helping shape what comes next.

Know someone who fits the assignment? Tag them, share this post, or send the opportunity their way. If you see yourself in this work, bring your résumé, cover letter, and a clear sense of the impact you’re ready to make.

2026 Programs Recap

Throughout this summer and our grant cycle, we were honored to bring impactful programming to our community. From engaging forums and interactive capacity-building workshops, to open office hours and a three-part panel series, these events provided space to listen to incredible perspectives and help local change makers strengthen their grant-writing skills.

Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported these initiatives! We extend special appreciation to A Little Bit of Good for co-hosting our capacity-building workshops and to the St. David’s Foundation for their generous support. We also want to thank our dedicated grant leads for guiding participants during office hours, and to the incredible panelists and moderators who shared their expertise throughout our 3-part virtual panel series!
