Texas GOP business leader Massey Villarreal warns that aggressive ICE raids are driving Hispanic voters away ahead of the 2026 midterms. Speaking to Hispanic chamber leaders in McAllen, he said even top Republicans admit enforcement has gone too far. Polls show strong support for protecting Dreamers and essential workers—because what hurts immigrant families also hurts our economy.

Villarreal, president and CEO of Precision Task Group, spoke to the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Coalition.

From Aztec Gardens to Christmas Cheer: The Poinsettia Story
Bright red, bold, and unmistakably festive, the poinsettia is a Christmas staple—but its history goes back centuries.
Native to southern Mexico, the Aztecs called it Cuetlaxóchitl (“flower that withers”) and used it for dyes, medicine, and religious ceremonies. Its vibrant red bracts symbolized life, purity, and the sun.
A beloved Mexican legend tells of Pepita, a poor girl who had no gift for baby Jesus. She offered simple weeds at the church altar—and they miraculously blossomed into bright red flowers, now called Flor de Nochebuena (“Flower of the Holy Night”).
In 1828, U.S. Ambassador Joel Poinsett brought the plant to America, and by the 20th century, the Ecke family helped turn it into the holiday favorite we know today.
Fun fact: poinsettias are not poisonous, despite the rumor! Every year, over 70 million are sold in the U.S., spreading color and holiday cheer.

Who Taught Cowboys to Be Cowboys? The Untold Legacy of the Mexican Vaquero. https://www.eventoslatinos.org/mexican-vaqueros-cowboy.../
When people imagine the American cowboy, the mental picture is often shaped by pop culture: a solitary figure riding across the plains, dusty boots, leather chaps, and perhaps a campfire under a starry sky. But long before cowboys became symbols of American ruggedness and freedom, a very different group of horsemen laid the groundwork—the Mexican vaqueros.
Yes, the American cowboy’s roots are deeply Hispanic. If you’ve ever wondered who really taught cowboys to be cowboys, the answer lies with the vaqueros of Mexico.

Unfortunately, many of our significant contributions have been forgotten to a version of history that all but nullifies us. I ask that you read this post about how Hispanics fought for this country alongside George Washington during the American Revolution, a fact often forgotten.

Yesterday afternoon, I had the privilege of visiting San Marcos, Texas, to meet with Dr. Josh Daspit and Dr. Marlene Orozco, who introduced me to the leadership team of Texas State University’s Hispanic Business Student Association (HBSA).

I had the opportunity to connect with HBSA President Christian Saldana, Corporate Relations Officer Mali Cisneros, and Parliamentarian Lisly Armendariz.

I was truly impressed by the professionalism, passion, and leadership these students demonstrated. Our conversation was productive, and it’s clear that HBSA is developing future leaders who will make a lasting impact in business and beyond.

I look forward to collaborating with this outstanding group of student leaders in the near future!
