Progress is In Front of Me

“I am a series of small victories and large defeats
and I am as amazed as any other
that I have gotten from there to here.”
~ Charles Bukowski

There has certainly been a lot that’s gone on before this, both individually and collectively. We’ve all made progress a little bit at a time only to lose that progress, and perchance more, in the next moment. Even successive moments of continued loss.

It can seem disappointing at times, but I have to remind myself that since I’ve made previous progress when things didn’t seem stacked in my favor, I can start from here and keep moving forward.

That keeps me present and aware of my previous success, the success of others that I can emulate. That keeps me aware of all the resources available now that I couldn’t imagine how to include before.

That’s why living in this moment is so impactful to redirecting our path. It can seem as if there is only one way forward, but in an Infinite Universe, there are millions of tangents to launch into.

It’s good to reflect on the journey now and again for reference, but my progress today is in front of me here and now. I move into the Joy that results from the achievement or the well tried effort.

In Just a Few Hours we go live and virtual - THIS Wednesday, May 20 from 6:30 to 8:00pm Central time, I'll be hosting a FREE Regular Spiritual Practice Workshop both live in Austin and on Zoom.

IMHO, there is nothing that will accelerate your spiritual growth and awareness more than starting and maintaining some sort of regular spiritual practice.

You don't have to believe in any particular religion or even believe in God. It's just investing a small portion of your time in nurturing your soul and connecting with your deeper self. The transformation happens right along with your consistency.

We'll be doing a brief review of different practices to facilitate finding what works for you. Try it, you'll like it.

To join live: join us at the Human Potential Center at 2007 Bert Ave off Manchaca just North of 290/Ben White.

To join via Zoom: join by using this link - https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5124418988...

Time Keeps Rolling Along

“And now let us believe in a long year that is given to us, new, untouched, full of things that have never been.”
- Rainer Maria Rilke -

It’s been four and a half months since New Year’s. I like to remind myself of the randomness of our relationship with the calendar, with time itself. Collectively we assign different meaning to different moments, anniversaries of events, when time simply keeps rolling along.

I have noticed that with the passing of time, I gather, or I should say, I have the opportunity to gather, greater wisdom, perspective and understanding. Whilst my experience doesn’t always go according to my preferences, my level of disruption and annoyance with course corrections diminishes.

Life remains the same outside of the confines of time and the promise of life, the openness of possibility in this moment, in all moments, remains the same.

That’s why it’s never too late to start again, begin something new. We’re not promised any specific amount of time, but I have this moment and that’s enough to more fully experience all that it is, all that Life is offering me and all that I am.

Try It For a Bit

“The attitude we should assume is that
life holds nothing against us. It desires only our good;
it wants us to be well, happy, and successful.”
- Ernest Holmes -

We get so many messages throughout our life that tell us Life is difficult, stacked against us, something to overcome.

Science and history portray a different paradigm. Life always finds a way to express with or without us. Our bodies do their best to repair and replace the damage we do to them.

I have found that the things most in my way are the limited beliefs about Life, about myself, that I have accepted as true. How different would my experience be if I shift my paradigm enough to default to this idea that Life needs me as an outlet for my authentic expression of It? Shift from Life is some competition to be won or lost into Life wants me to do well, be happy and successful. A lot different.

The change in my interpretation, approach, expectation and engagement becomes instant. Life starts responding to this new attitude immediately and things, my personal experience gets better right here and right now. So why not try it for a bit and just watch what happens?

Stretch Marks

in the end
i want my heart
to be covered
in stretch marks.
--Andrea Gibson

We’ve all felt the pain of rejection, abandonment and unrequited love. And we’ve all felt the joy of acceptance, inclusion and love reciprocated. And everything in between.

Love can be seen as a risk or as a way of living. To gain there is exposure to and from my comfort zone. To let someone in a little further. To go out on the limb a little further.

Our heart is for connection. Not every attempt is successful in the way that we understand and define success at the time. But every attempt is essential to our well being, knowing the joy of trying and not avoiding in our reflection. Each attempt we gain something, maybe not our defined objective, but we grow in confidence, wisdom and ability.

Bliss Beyond Pain

"...It may not be fun, but it’s your bliss
and there’s bliss behind pain too."
- Joseph Campbell -

When Campbell encouraged us to ‘follow your bliss’, I initially thought, ‘Oh, great, jus do what I like, what feels good.’ Yes that is one way, but what I’m seeing now is that there is a deeper bliss found when working through long standing obstructions. There is a true sense of freedom found from the empowerment of breaking through.

The expansive field of view found by taking just a few relatively small steps further in the proper direction. Maybe it’s the first few steps, maybe it’s the last few in a long line that seemed it would never end, but stepping from dark to light, from restriction to limitless, eventually reaches the point of being just a step or two forward.

That journey can be painful, full of pain, as we move beyond what was, how we were, what we knew and what we could do into something else. The key is to always remember that in an Infinite Universe, there is always something else to move into and beyond.

Not all bliss is ecstatic joy. As in exercise, what feels like pain now becomes power, accomplishment, successful navigation to be drawn upon later when needed. We’ve all been through so much, and we still have a long way to go, but with each successive moment, with each move forward, with each new awareness, we’ve got plenty to draw upon and plenty to share.
