🎨 Art, Culture & Contrast at STMS! ✨

Mrs. Klein’s 7th grade art scholars at Wayside: Sci-Tech Middle School are exploring the concept of contrast as they prepare to create artwork inspired by Hispanic heritage and culture.

Scholars are learning how artists use differences in color, shape, pattern, texture, and value to make artwork stand out and communicate ideas. They’ll put those concepts into practice as they create culturally inspired pieces, including Vejigante masks from Puerto Rico. 🎭

Vejigante masks are a vibrant tradition associated with Puerto Rican festivals, particularly the Carnival celebrations of Ponce. Known for their bold colors, exaggerated features, and imaginative designs, the masks offer scholars an opportunity to explore both artistic techniques and cultural traditions.

We can’t wait to see how our Ravens turn contrast into creativity! 🎨🐦

📚💙 Happy Instructional Coaches Day! 💙📚

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible instructional coaches who work alongside our teachers every day to strengthen instruction and create better learning experiences for our scholars.

Much of their work happens behind the scenes, but its impact can be felt in classrooms across Wayside. When our teachers grow, our scholars grow, too. 🌱

To Harper, Gabriela and Daniela, Wayside's instructional coaches: thank you for the expertise, energy, and heart you bring to our schools. We appreciate you today and every day! 🐦💙

A huge THANK YOU to Get’Em Hooked Tailgaters for presenting Wayside Schools with a check to provide 20 sponsorships for the Future Ravens League (FRL)! 🎉

Their generosity helps ensure that ALL scholars have access to the opportunity to play, compete, build confidence, and be part of a team—regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

Not familiar with FRL? It’s Wayside’s low-cost youth sports league for scholars in K–5th grade, offering volleyball, basketball and soccer. FRL is designed to make organized sports accessible, welcoming and fun for young athletes of all experience levels.
