At what age do people start showing signs of CTE?
CTE symptoms don’t appear immediately after a head injury. Research shows they often develop years or even decades after repeated head trauma—which is why awareness and prevention matter so much.
Experts believe CTE symptoms tend to appear in two patterns:
• Early adulthood (late 20s–early 30s):
Symptoms may show up as changes in mood and behavior, including depression, anxiety, impulsivity, and aggression.
• Later in life (around age 60):
Symptoms often involve memory loss, difficulty thinking, and cognitive decline that can progress to dementia.
What’s critical to understand is this: CTE is preventable.
Education, early intervention, safer sports practices, and proper management of head injuries can significantly reduce risk.
Awareness leads to action. Action leads to change.
