🐾 WELCOME WEDNESDAY! October 14th 🐾
Another Wednesday, another transport, another whole lot of lives getting a second chance!
Today was one of those days that reminds us just how many moving parts there are in rescue. And with the downright dangerous weather conditions we were dealing with today, I'm especially grateful for our amazing transport drivers who braved the roads to get these babies safely where they needed to be. ❤️
So who climbed aboard the Stray Haven bus today?
🐾 2 Shepherd teenagers, approximately 6 months old, from the hollow in Greenup County, KY. Apparently I committed to taking these two last week and promptly forgot about it. 🤦♀️ That's rescue brain for you! We still have two more boys from this litter waiting for us to find foster space.
🐾 4 adorable little Shorties! A litter of Corgi/Lab mixes from Floyd County. Short legs, big personalities, and hopefully some wonderful forever homes in their future!
🐾 A Yorkie mix puppy and Diesel Doo, a big, beautiful Goldendoodle, both coming to us through community surrenders in Kentucky.
🐾 A Shepherd mix mama and her 4 newborn babies from Johnson County. Five more precious lives who now have the opportunity for a better future.
🐾 A Shepherd mix from the Pulaski County euthanasia list. This is why we do what we do. Yesterday, we were 2 hours too late to save a life and it was a difficult thing for us to process. ... but we used her precious spot to save another that was next in line. Somewhere today, a dog who was running out of time got another chance at life.
That's 14 new Stray Haven faces joining our program today!
But we weren't done there!
❤️ 10 more dogs came along for Ripley County Humane Society!
We're so excited about this growing partnership! Six adult Chiweenies and four 11-week-old Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog puppies made the trip today, and we're thrilled that RCHS is working alongside us to help give more dogs a chance at finding wonderful homes.
And there's MORE exciting news!
We've entered into a new pilot program with Owen County Animal Shelter! Thinking outside of the box is becoming necessary, and we've committed to helping six of their amazing dogs who are wonderful fits for our program. We're looking forward to building this relationship and hopefully opening another avenue to help dogs who need us.
Tomorrow is surgery day!
Many of today's new arrivals will be getting spayed or neutered as we move them another step closer to being ready for adoption. The bus may be parked for the evening, but the work certainly doesn't stop!
And here's where I have to get a little serious.
Every dog we bring in means more food, more supplies, more veterinary care, more cleaning, more coordinating, and most importantly, more foster homes needed.
Those two Shepherd boys still waiting in Greenup County are a perfect example. We know they're there. We want to bring them in. We've already helped their siblings. But we have to have somewhere for them to go.
That's one of the hardest parts of rescue. Knowing there are dogs we can help, but not having the space to say YES just yet.
We're an entirely volunteer-driven organization. No paid staff. Just people giving their time, their homes, their vehicles, and a whole lot of their hearts to make all of this happen.
And tonight, I especially want to thank our transport drivers. The weather was dangerous, the day was long, and the responsibility of transporting these precious lives is never something we take lightly. Thank you for getting everyone home safely. You are such an important part of this mission!
We need fosters. Whether you can take a puppy, an adult dog, a mama with babies, or even one of our fully vetted dogs to free up space for another emergency intake, you can make a tremendous difference.
