For Union Fuel Fridays we cover🥁🥁

Wall-to-Wall!!

Our union is wall to wall but what does that mean? Here we discuss how any UCH worker can join their union and create change NOW! Collective bargaining is one tool of many we can utilize to have a voice in our workplace!

Today’s Union Fuel Fridays tackles BURNOUT— when you have been through burnout it feels never ending and detaches us from our passion. Any type of healthcare worker can experience burnout and we saw it consume our colleagues, friends, family, and loved ones during 2020 and currently. Unionizing isn’t to put more on our plates, but to build upon our power and stop the burnout from continuing. Tell us about your burnout and what ways we can address it in our workplaces!

Have you dealt with burnout while working in healthcare?

📢🔥Union Fuel Fridays! Today we discuss roles within our union! They range from core group to hostile (eeeekk!) and we must identify our own roles within organizing and where others may exist in our union! Where do you land on the bullseye? 🎯

💰💸Today we talk about what is on all our minds: money 💸💰

Even though it has been seen as inappropriate or unprofessional (wonder why that is?🤔), discussing wages has opened the eyes of many workers that are being underpaid compared to their colleagues. Not only is it legal to discuss wages, you should have open and honest conversations about your wages with your co-workers. This even includes any system wide raises given to certain job classifications while other positions stay at a lower pay rate. Start talking and planning! We want to hear all about it!

🕰️today’s union fuel fridays goes over breaks!🕰️

We have all done it… they start rolling out breaks and we just say, “no I am good” because there are so few of us and 10 mins would cause a disruption. This becomes a habit and we find ourselves constantly exhausted and unfocused as the shift progresses.

What if we started seeing breaks as integral parts of our work? We need rest even on the clock and deserve to spend time away to regroup and separate ourselves. We implore you to take your breaks and to ask your coworkers to do the same.

Welcome to Union Fuel Fridays ✊😁✨😤

These will be weekly (hopefully) posts about unionization, organizing, UCHWU updates, and to build a stronger healthcare system!

This week: Apathy. (Brought to you by your bosses and solved by a worker like you. Thank you.)
We see it everyday. Our co-workers are just clocking in and out. We don’t want to rock the boat. But what does that allow in our workplace? What are issues that concern you and how would you like to address them? What could UCHealth look like if YOU had power to change it? Which of these categories do you identify with? Let us know in the comments or DM us!

We are deeply concerned by UChealth’s decision to end the pension plan in Jan 2024 for new hires. As we face staffing crises across America reducing benefit packages is not the answer. If we want to attract top talent to this is a major step in the wrong direction 💔💔💔. While this does not effect current employees we stand for all workers rights including those in school hoping to be hired soon ☹️

We at love our jobs. We just believe that the best way to run a health care system is to give a voice to all vested parties. A top down approach may have worked in the past. But todays’ challenges require innovative solutions. The workers of deserve to have a seat at the table! Join us and together we will create a brighter tomorrow 💪🏽

SB23-111, the Public Employees’ Workplace Protection Act, has officially been signed into law. This historic bill grants public workers in Colorado important workplace protections that most private sector employees have had for almost 90 years.

This is a huge win for workers and for our community.

The National Labor Relations Act, passed in 1935, and the Colorado Labor Peace Act, passed in 1943, granted organizing rights to private sector employees but excluded those necessary protections from workers in the public sector. SB23-111 changes that and extends those protections to nearly 250,000 public sector employees across the state of Colorado.

Join your union today and together we will build a better world by strengthening worker solidarity across the public sector and the entire labor movement 🤝
