Lake Winnecook (Unity Pond) just shared this great video about Togus Pond’s alum treatment, and we’re happy to pass it along!

The Lake Winnecook folks are working toward an alum treatment of their own and came to Togus Pond last April to learn more about our experience. It’s always great to connect with other lake associations and share what we’ve learned along the way.

Labor Day Weekend wrapped up our Courtesy Boat Inspectors time at the Togus Pond boat launch. Many thanks to our inspectors we had all summer working to prevent invasive plants from entering Togus Pond! They did a great job. We still need boaters to be careful when using the launch by doing your own boat inspections. Here's some info on how you can help.

A few extra minutes at the boat launch can help protect Maine’s waters.

Before leaving the water, remember to:

CLEAN off visible plants, animals, and mud from boats, trailers, fishing gear, and other equipment.

DRAIN all water from your boat and equipment away from the water.

DRY everything thoroughly before using it in another waterbody.

Aquatic invasive species can hitch a ride on boats and gear, including some that are too small to see. Making Clean, Drain, Dry part of every trip helps prevent them from spreading to new waters.

A friendly reminder on why it's best not to feed ducks and geese on the lake.

We know it’s tempting to toss a little food to our feathered friends, but ducks are happiest and healthiest when they find their own natural food.

Feeding ducks can cause them to gather in one area, which means more droppings and extra nutrients entering the water. Over time, those nutrients can contribute to algae growth and impact water quality. Bread and other human foods aren’t healthy for ducks either.

The best way to enjoy our ducks is to watch, admire, and let them stay wild.

A simple choice not to feed them helps protect Togus Pond and the wildlife we all love. 🦆 Wild ducks are happy ducks!

Malnutrition, disease, habitat degradation, and habituation are serious consequences of feeding ducks and geese.

We are incredibly grateful to our Courtesy Boat Inspectors for their dedication to protecting Togus Pond. Every weekend, they're on the front lines helping educate boaters, inspecting watercraft, and working to keep invasive aquatic species out of our lake. Their friendly conversations and careful inspections make a real difference.

When our inspectors aren't on duty, we all play an important role. Before entering or leaving any water body, remember to:

💧 Clean your boat, trailer, and equipment.
💧 Drain all water from your boat, motor, live wells, and bilge.
💧 Dry everything thoroughly before launching in another lake.
