…Behold I come quickly, says the Lord!
Yesterday was our fifth day here in Guatemala, and as our time in Guatemala begins to wind down, we're becoming increasingly aware that this week has never just been about providing medical care. With each passing day, we've watched God open doors for conversations, create opportunities to share His love, and remind us that every encounter has an eternal purpose. While our clinic days may look similar on the schedule, the people we meet, the stories we hear, and the ways God moves continue to surprise and encourage us each day.
Before heading to the clinic yesterday morning, our team once again gathered for breakfast, worship, and a devotional to prepare our hearts for the day ahead. Robert Williams shared from Mark 1:17, reminding us that Jesus not only invites us to follow Him and become new creations in Christ, but also gives us a new calling—to become fishers of men. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, He equips us to share the Gospel wherever He leads us. Robert challenged us with this thought: even if we had a "miracle drug" packed away in our trunks that could heal every physical illness, every person we meet will still one day face eternity. That is why the greatest gift we can offer is the hope found in Jesus Christ. While we are grateful to care for physical needs, our ultimate mission is to invest in what lasts forever.
Yesterday, we traveled to San Pedro Las Huertas (a town right outside of Antigua, Guatemala where we are staying for the week) for another day of caring for patients and sharing the hope of Jesus. We started off the day with a ceremony from the municipality of Antigua honoring The Great Commission for the work we would do over the next two days in their town. And then it was off to work!
Throughout the day, our team had the privilege of serving 350 patients (our biggest clinic day yet)!
Most importantly, we rejoice that 155 adults and 39 children made the decision to trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Every salvation is a reminder of why we come. Not simply to provide medical care that will last only for this life here on Earth, but to point people to the Great Physician who saves and heals for eternity!
One of the things we love most about these trips is watching relationships begin to form throughout the week. By now, many familiar faces greet us with smiles, and our translators, volunteers, and providers have developed wonderful rhythms of working together. It's amazing how quickly strangers become family when serving alongside one another for the Kingdom.
After another full clinic day, we returned to the hotel to enjoy dinner a pizza together. Dinner ended with a special surprise– a birthday party for our team member Crystal complete with a mariachi band, decorations, and cake!
As we prepare for our final clinic day today in San Pedro Las Huertas, our hearts are full of gratitude for all that God has done throughout this week. While we are excited to reflect on His faithfulness, we also know He is still at work, and we are praying that today will be a meaningful finish to everything He has begun.
