The Crown Magnolia Court of Georgia nominates Empress 60 of the Imperial Council of San Francisco, Afrika America, for QM II of the Americas.
As a young court, specifically the second to the youngest court in the ICS, our courtiers and monarchs spend the majority, if not all of our time on the ground. You may have seen and still likely see our past monarchs on the circuit, connecting with other courts, engaging in calls, sharing drinks or a meal with courtiers from all over, listening to their stories. The same can be said about Afrika.
As such, in our short lifespan, we have witnessed and learned a lot. We've learned how important it is for courtiers to be seen and heard by those who represent us. We've realized the need for a results-driven representative who just gets it done, someone who shows up when support is needed the most.
We've experienced the kind of hardship the lack of support can yield. We know firsthand how young courts like ours have to grind twice as hard to stay around and how having our leaders just show up for us can truly turn the tide. We've witnessed older courts that have basically fallen off the map with no reinforcement, interference, or uplift from those meant to counsel us. We've sat in rooms and marveled at the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for causes outside our own system's needs, money that most courts never see, no matter how great the need. Most importantly, we've learned that it is time for a change, not just in name, but in direction.
When the monarchs of our Reign 4 heard the many stories about sexual assault and misconduct that continue to plague our system, the Imperial Sexual Assault Awareness Coalition (ISAAC) was born. Afrika took a real interest in the effort and its reason for existing. She asked questions. When courts have been charged with raising travel funds for newly elected monarchs, Afrika has offered support countless times, raising almost $30K in travel funds for monarchs all over the ICS. When our youngest court, the Imperial Court de Puerto Rico, had its first coronation, Afrika was in attendance and fully present, cheering them on. She has spent the last 27 years serving several different LGBTQ+ organizations, not just the ICS, during which she has raised over half a million dollars that have gone directly to the causes for which she's volunteered.
She is tenacious. She is fearless. She is vocal. She embodies the spirit of the CMCGA and a lot of courts in this system. In this transitional period in which we must shed old skin, we truly believe Afrika is the new armor this system needs to get us through the next phase. It's time for a new dawn, a new day, a new court system. We're not dead, yet!
