Mainers for National Popular Vote

Mainers for National Popular Vote That's what the National Popular Vote delivers! NPV is legal, and favors voters, not parties, land, geography, factions or states. No more second place winners!

Do you believe that every vote in every state in every presidential election should be equal and politically relevant; and the person who wins the most votes nationally should win the presidency? Mainers For National Popular Vote exists to ensure that the presidential candidate who receives the most votes nationwide is elected president. To this end, we want to help all Mainers understand what the

National Popular Vote (NPV) is, and to gain passage by the Maine legislature. State legislatures determine (under the constitution) how to appoint their electoral college electors, and states joining the NPV agreement agree to award all their electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins the overall popular vote across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The NPV works within the electoral college, and does not change anything about how it functions, or anything in the constitution. As of February, 2021, it has been adopted by fifteen states with a total of 196 electoral votes (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, Washington, New Jersey, Illinois, New York, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Delaware and Oregon) and the District of Columbia. When states representing 270 electoral votes have joined, the agreement will go into effect, and member states' electors will be cast for whomever wins the national popular vote. Every vote will be equal and politically relevant in every state in every presidential election! Politicians will be motivated to campaign in every state for every vote they can win!
