🌺 CAMELLIA FUN FACT FRIDAY

Think camellias are just winter and spring flowers? Not so fast!

Sasanqua camellias are fall bloomers, with many beginning their show while much of the rest of the garden is winding down.

They also tend to have smaller leaves and flowers and a more open growth habit than the familiar Camellia japonica. Depending on the cultivar, sasanqua flowers can be white, pink, red or combinations of those colors—and some are fragrant! 🌸

That makes October the beginning of one of our favorite seasons: camellia season!

Did you know that today is International Tea Day? Did you also know that tea is made of camellia sinensis leaves? It’s National Tea Day in the United Kingdom today, too. Celebrated on April 21, 2026, it honors Britain's favorite beverage with the theme "Brew More. Do More.". The day, often coinciding with Queen Elizabeth II's birthday, encourages enjoying tea, hosting tea parties, and exploring new blends. It is a day for tea lovers to celebrate tea's cultural significance and variety. Have you had your camellia beverage today? Enjoy your favorite tea and celebrate the amazing camellia sinensis!
