Nearly 100 people came out in Cape May County today to make sure Congressman Jeff Van Drew heard us loud and clear: Pack your bags!

We showed up for our immigrant neighbors. We showed up for public education, healthcare, working families, and civil rights. We are sick and tired of a congressman who refuses to meet with constituents with viewpoints other than his own. It is time to vote for someone who believes that democracy belongs to ALL of us!

Thank you to Ocean City Indivisible, Cape May County Indivisible, Cape May Bridge Brigade, Cape May United, Lonaconing Indivisible, Atlantic County Indivisible, and everyone who stood on that sidewalk, held a sign, raised your voice, honked a horn, and reminded Jefferson exactly who he works for.

ATTENTION NJEA MEMBERS: IT’S TIME TO SHOW UP.

This year at the NEA Representative Assembly, your elected NJEA representatives from across New Jersey voted unanimously in our state caucus to support a New Business Item challenging the expansion and operation of immigrant detention centers.

While the NBI ultimately did not pass the national Representative Assembly, the message from New Jersey educators was unmistakable:

ICE is hurting our children. ICE is hurting our families. ICE is hurting our schools.

Educators shared stories of students coming to school terrified that a parent might not be home when they return. Teachers talked about families being separated, students struggling to concentrate and learn, attendance being disrupted, and entire school communities living with fear and uncertainty.

For educators, this isn't an abstract political debate. These are our students. These are their parents. These are the families who trust us with their children every single day.

Now it's time to turn the solidarity we showed inside the NEA RA into solidarity in the streets.
Join your union brothers and sisters at Delaney Hall this Sunday, August 23rd at 4pm.

Let's show our immigrant students, families, and communities that NJEA members stand with them.

Union solidarity means community solidarity.
