💡What if the solution to family homelessness in has been hiding in plain sight? There are more than 620 and houses of worship across our County - representing nearly 3,000 acres of land.

We did the math: if just 6.5% of existing church-owned property was leveraged intentionally, we could create enough safe, stable housing to support EVERY unhoused student family in our community. Every. Single. One.

That’s the power of small, smart cottage communities.

At Bridge Communities, we believe faith-based land can become faith-based action - creating room for working families in crisis to breathe, regroup and rebuild. This isn’t about massive developments. It’s about communities coming together to solve local problems with compassion, creativity, purpose and pride. Learn more: thebridgega.org

Some organizations offer a handout. Others offer a hand up. But what happens in the space in between crisis and stability? That’s the gap Bridge Communities is working to fill. In Cobb County - home of the most GENEROUS City in America - so many of us are giving of our time, talent and treasure to causes we believe in. But one thing that stood out to Andrea TheoJohn about Bridge was this: we’re creating something deeper than temporary shelter. We’re creating .

Not 30 or 60 days of uncertainty. Not another cycle of instability. But a real opportunity for working families in crisis to reset, regroup and move forward - with dignity. Through thoughtfully designed cottage communities, families can stay for 6 to 24 months while rebuilding their lives, strengthening their finances and creating a path toward long-term stability.

At the end of the day, most people simply want a fair shot at advancing their lives and caring for their families. That’s what Bridge is about. And that’s why Andrea TheoJohn's so proud to be part of it. Join us: thebridgega.org

This past year there were a total of 929 year-round beds available across the Cobb Homeless Alliance. And yet – more than 2,600 students in Cobb County are experiencing homelessness. Behind that number are families doing their best – often living in extended-stay motels with mold, pests, and unsafe conditions… couch surfing with relatives, or even sleeping in their cars. All while trying to keep life as normal as possible for their children.

This is why solutions like Bridge Communities matter – creating not just shelter, but stability. Because every family deserves room to breathe.

It takes a community to build room to breathe - and we’re so grateful for the leaders helping make it happen. This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating our incredible Bridge Communities Board - a group of dedicated volunteers who give their time, talent and leadership to help Cobb families move from crisis to stability.

Jonathan Zila, Board Chair and President of Talivity
Andrea Brantley, Executive Director of Family Promise of North Fulton/DeKalb
The Honorable Ashley Palmer, Judge, Georgia State Court of Cobb County
Brad Turner, Owner of Southern Green Construction
Jason Gaines, Director of Planning at Croy Engineering
Joy Pigg, Children’s Ministry Pastor at Zion Baptist Church
Mark Hiatt, Former Associate Professor at Kennesaw State University
Shari Martin, President & CEO of Cobb Community Foundation
Kevin Pounds, Executive Director of Bridge Communities

And we’re excited to welcome our newest board member, Adam J. Rozen of Rozen, Rozen & Reilly. We’re grateful to have you on board, Adam!

Because of volunteers like these, hope is building across our community.

Earlier this year, our Executive Director - Kevin Pounds - joined volunteers across Cobb County for what's called the annual "Point in Time Count" - a federally required effort to measure in our community.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth: a one-night count can never fully capture the reality of housing instability. Because homelessness doesn’t always look like what people expect.

It can look like:
• A family living week-to-week in a motel
• A student sleeping on someone else’s couch
• A parent and child staying in a minivan
• A family moving quietly from place to place so they aren’t separated

These are the neighbors often left out of the conversation - not because they don’t exist, but because they’re harder to see.

At Bridge Communities, we believe understanding the full picture matters. Because if we only solve for the homelessness we can see, we miss the families who are hiding in plain sight.

Awareness should lead to action 0 and action should lead to housing solutions.

Thoughtfully designed. Purposefully built. Every Bridge cottage is created to provide more than shelter — it offers families a safe, beautiful place to breathe, rebuild and prepare for what comes next.

Our 700 sq. ft. cottage floorplan includes:
• 2 bedrooms / 1 bath
• Vaulted living room
• Covered front porch
• Smart, efficient layout for family living

Each community is designed with 10–12 cottages centered around a shared community space — creating not just housing, but connection, support and belonging. Because every family deserves more than a roof over their head — they deserve room to breathe. Learn more about how Bridge is building pathways forward at thebridgega.org

As a child, Chy Kellogg experienced the unimaginable - being evicted from her home alongside her paralyzed mother and younger sisters, unsure of where her family would sleep next. What viewers may not see in this clip is that Chy’s story did not end there. That painful chapter became the seed for her future purpose, inspiring her to build a nonprofit - Cultured AG - dedicated to teaching children resilience, self-sufficiency and how to cultivate their own food: culturedag.org

Her story is one of extraordinary overcoming - but it is also a reminder of why organizations like Bridge Communities exist.

Because while we celebrate stories of resilience, we believe no child should have to endure housing instability, hunger or uncertainty in the first place. At Bridge, we’re working every day to create a world where families have the room to breathe, rebuild and thrive - before crisis becomes trauma. | thebridgega.org
