📣 Calling High School STEM Educators!

The NSF Engineering Research Center for Cell Manufacturing Technologies (CMaT) is hosting a half-day virtual professional development workshop for high school STEM teachers on July 20, 2026, from 1:00–5:00 PM ET.

This interactive workshop will introduce educators to the rapidly growing field of cell and gene therapy manufacturing and explore how biomanufacturing is shaping the future of healthcare and workforce development.

Participants will:
🔬 Learn how cell manufacturing is helping improve patient outcomes
🧪 Explore ways cell manufacturing research has been integrated into high school curriculum
🎓 Discover summer research opportunities for teachers and pre-college students
💼 Gain insight into biomanufacturing career pathways for high school graduates
🤝 Network with educators across CMaT campuses nationwide
💰 Each participating teacher will receive a $250 stipend.

Please join us in wishing Megan Heaphy all the best in her next chapter.
During her time with Georgia Life Sciences, Megan played a key role in advancing workforce and education initiatives that strengthen Georgia’s life sciences ecosystem. Through her leadership in programs like the Biotech Teacher Training Initiative and educator engagement efforts, she helped expand hands-on STEM learning, support teachers statewide, and inspire the next generation of life sciences talent.

Her work contributed to building meaningful connections between classrooms and industry - equipping educators with real-world tools, fostering career awareness, and helping grow a more robust, future-ready workforce across Georgia.

On Saturday, we hosted a workshop with miniPCR’s Kristin Hennessy-McDonald. Kristin walked participants through the updated Food Safety lab, which now includes a Food Truck scenario. This lab is perfect for a collaboration between Biology/Biotech and Culinary classes to discuss how to trace food-borne illnesses and the importance of proper food handling.
