We are thrilled to introduce a member of our community, Vanessa Betancourt! Vanessa was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2023 at 23 years old. Her latest update is that she has officially earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice and is stepping into her next chapter as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, where she will continue to advocate for young adults with cancer. Congrats Vanessa!! We are so proud of you.

Sending so much love alongside this care package going out today 💌 I’m especially honored to include the words of written during her own fight with cancer. She wrote her poems to encourage others to express themselves, and I hope her shared experience continues to bring comfort with every package we send.

World Cancer Day. For a lot of us, today is just like any other day. Survivors, patients, and caregivers don’t get to think about cancer just one day a year. Awareness matters. Advocacy matters. Research matters. Community matters. Not just today.

The Piece Out Cancer team proudly represented The Mosaic Project at the Winship 5K today! We walked for every fighter, survivor, caregiver, and supporter, every piece of the mosaic. Winship has cared for our Founder, her family, and so many others who inspire our mission. 100% of donations from this race support research and innovative approaches in the fight against cancer through the Winship Cancer Institute.

It is also worth noting that September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month as well. For our community and especially our founder, this is more than a ribbon. It’s our lived experience. We need to come together to share stories, lift each other up, and remind every fighter they are not alone throughout this month.

Meet Shannon- a beautiful and inspiring piece of our mosaic. Shannon was just 24 when her world changed. What began as fatigue and abdominal pain led to a diagnosis of Stage IV colon cancer. Since then, she has faced countless hospital stays and treatments with resilience and courage. We hope her story will inspire you in the same way it has inspired us 🧡
