ABOUT US
Our advocacy to help HIV positive people – including the youth, adults, and families – through awareness and education to promote their personal and social well-being has inspired the creation of HYPE (HIV+ Youth that Pledge to Empower Themselves and Others). This nonprofit organization exists to transform the lives of youth, young adults, families, and communities living with HIV. Our yo

ungest member enrolled in the program is 5 years old. We aim to cater to everyone in the community who needs attention and assistance. Through our comprehensive and relevant services and programs at HYPE, we provide the link to HIV awareness, sufficient treatment, and support. We empower our members to become leaders in their own community through immersions, mentoring and leadership trainings. Our founder, Lamar Yarborough, was diagnosed with HIV and cancer when he was just 18. Immensely grateful for surviving his personal ordeals, he is committed to help all people living with HIV through the help of the HYPE members who share 20 years of experience with the HIV/AIDS community. Lamar is especially passionate about providing much-needed inspiration and hope for the HIV positive youth in our program. A collective effort to provide education, counseling, medical, social, and professional support is necessary to achieve the goals of our organization hence we are counting on you to assist us in pursuing our initiatives.

In addition to our direct services for HIV positive individuals and communities, we also aim to provide our skills and expertise to persons, groups, organizations and businesses who wish to utilize the HYPE model in targeting areas where they wish to make a difference.

We welcome your help and contribution, and we hope that together we can reverse the negative stigma of HIV/AIDS – to view a positive HIV diagnosis as a challenge that can be conquered with supportive friends, family, and the entire HYPE community.

Our communities continue to face some of the toughest health disparities in the nation. HIV stigma still keeps far too many people from speaking openly or seeking care. At the same time, breast cancer continues to take the lives of Black women at higher rates, often because of delayed screening and systemic barriers. These challenges remind us why spaces for healing, education, and support are so important.

United We Rise was created to honor survivors, uplift our youth, and support families navigating the realities of HIV and breast cancer. By bringing both causes together, we’re creating a powerful space where no one has to fight alone — and where life-saving information reaches the people who need it most.

📊 Why This Matters:
• The U.S. South accounts for 52% of HIV-related deaths (CDC).
• Black women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer at later stages (Breast Cancer Research Foundation).

This event is about visibility, empowerment, and community. Together, we can raise awareness, share resources, and build a future where our communities have the support and knowledge they deserve.

💗✨ We rise together — and every voice, every story, every life matters.

Today is the Day — Your Donation = Life-Changing Impact

Today is Giving Tuesday! Your donation today supports H.Y.P.E.’s mission to empower youth disproportionately affected by HIV. Through programs like our HIV Education Academy, Leadership Training, LGBTQIA+ Support Circles, Transgender Empowerment Program, Digital Safe Spaces, and Family Support Services, we provide trauma-informed education, health literacy, and life-changing support.
The stories we shared this month—of Jordan, Maria, Kevin, Anaya, Kayla, Destiny, and so many others—reflect what youth face daily: stigma, inequity, rejection, trauma, and misinformation. But they also reflect the resilience and transformation that occurs when young people have access to community, education, and healing.
Your Giving Tuesday gift ensures we can continue changing lives, building leaders, and breaking cycles of stigma and inequity. Your support becomes part of every youth’s healing journey.

From H.Y.P.E. Board Member:
“Today, I’m giving to H.Y.P.E. because our youth deserve a future where HIV stigma doesn’t limit their potential or their power. I’ve witnessed the impact through the courage of young people who found their voice, their confidence, and their community through H.Y.P.E.’s programs. Every young person deserves compassion, accurate information, and a safe space to grow into the leaders they are meant to be.”

On the Eve of Giving Tuesday — Why Your Support Matters

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, a day when generosity transforms into impact. Every contribution helps H.Y.P.E. expand programs like our HIV Education Academy, Youth Leadership Program, Transgender Empowerment Initiative, Family Empowerment Circles, and National Digital Outreach Program. Your giving supports trauma-informed healing and life-saving education for youth facing disproportionate HIV risk.
Families we serve often begin their journey in fear—fear of diagnosis, of stigma, of judgment. H.Y.P.E. is the bridge that helps them move from fear to understanding, from isolation to community, and from trauma to empowerment. Your giving ensures that youth and families never have to walk this journey alone.

Jada, the mother of a teen in our program, shared that before H.Y.P.E., she didn’t know how to talk to her child about HIV or sexuality. Through our Family Empowerment Program, she learned communication tools that rebuilt trust and transformed their relationship.

From H.Y.P.E. Donor:
“I give to H.Y.P.E. because every young person deserves a space where they are seen, affirmed, and empowered without judgment. Jada’s story reminds me that when we invest in families, we don’t just change conversations — we change futures. I hope others join tomorrow because your gift becomes the turning point for a young person who is waiting for hope, healing, and a chance to thrive.”

Stigma-Free Spaces — The Foundation of Healing

Stigma is one of the most powerful drivers of the HIV epidemic. It silences youth, isolates families, and creates barriers to healthcare and honesty. H.Y.P.E.’s Stigma-Free Youth Spaces, Support Circles, and Digital Healing Rooms help youth build confidence, understand their bodies, and ask questions without fear.
Our programs teach youth about HIV prevention, treatment, emotional wellbeing, healthy relationships, and identity development. Youth who once hid their fears learn to speak openly and care for themselves with dignity. These spaces are where healing begins, and where shame is replaced with empowerment.

Rashad, a 16-year-old participant, said he spent years silently terrified of HIV before finding H.Y.P.E. Through our stigma-free spaces, he gained confidence, learned the truth about HIV, and found a network of peers who helped him feel safe.

From H.Y.P.E. Executive Director:
“I support stigma-free spaces because every young person deserves to learn, grow, and ask questions without fear, shame, or judgment. Rashad’s experience taught me that safe, supportive communities can transform fear into knowledge, confidence, and connection. Healing begins when youth feel seen, heard, and valued for who they are.”
