Our K9 units play an important role in the work we do, combining incredible instinct, discipline and loyalty with the dedication of their handlers. They work hard, stay focused and, of course, still find time to be the best dogs around.

There’s something truly magical about the bush coming back to life.

As the cold winter months slowly give way to warmer days, the landscape begins to transform. The mornings become softer, the grasses turn greener, and the first signs of new life start appearing everywhere.

The air feels different. The days grow longer. Wildlife becomes more active, and the bush slowly shifts into one of its most beautiful seasons.

From crisp winter mornings to warm summer afternoons, witnessing this transition is a reminder of just how incredible the natural world is.

A new season is coming, and with it, the bush begins to breathe a little deeper.

An elephant never forgets, and neither should we.

They shape the land they walk on. Where elephants go, forests regenerate, water holes stay open, and entire ecosystems follow their lead. Losing them doesn't just mean losing an animal, it means losing the architect of the landscape itself.

Protecting elephants means protecting the whole system around them, and the people who share that land.

At ERP, that looks like aircraft tracking herds across terrain no vehicle can reach. Classrooms where curiosity about the natural world takes root early. Communities discovering that a thriving ecosystem is worth more standing than sold.

This World Elephant Day, here's where your support goes:

Later this month, a group of cyclists sets out from Centurion, Pretoria, riding roughly 300 kilometres over three days to reach ERP's Melorane Game Reserve, as part of the Melorane Cycling Tour supporting .

Riders will not be doing this alone — volunteers are supporting the tour every step of the way, from logistics on the road to the bike drop itself.

Every kilometre ridden helps put more bicycles into the hands of children who currently walk long distances to school.

Bush Buddies started back up for the year, and two groups have now been through it.

This session covered ecosystems and food webs, how everything in nature depends on something else, from the smallest insect to the tallest tree. The kids worked through examples of who eats what and what happens further down the chain when one link changes.

Then it was time to get hands-on. They dug through different soil types, comparing textures and colours and talking about what each one is actually good for, whether that's holding water, growing certain plants, or supporting the insects and microorganisms living in it.

A lesser-known fact about Melorane: HQ now has three resident cats.

Lucy arrived as a stray one day and quickly made herself at home with our anti-poaching unit and maintenance staff. She's been brilliant at keeping the rats away, and somehow always seems to show up with comfort exactly when it's needed.

Our maintenance staff recently finished building a little house for two new arrivals, both adopted from a rescue centre.

For people doing such stressful and important work, having animals around makes a real difference. They bring comfort, routine and companionship, with the bonus of three very vigilant sets of eyes keeping watch for rats and snakes around the accommodation.

Last week, BTI and BCPA hosted a Career Guidance Day for ERP Funded Learnership trainees.

Former trainees joined the session to share honest insights from their own journeys. From navigating the learnership to taking the next steps in their careers. Their advice and experience gave current trainees practical perspective on the opportunities ahead.

Last Friday afternoon, we came together at Irene Country Club for the Mandela Day Walk.

It was inspiring to see so many people complete the 5 km route in support of pangolin conservation and ERP's efforts to rehabilitate rescued pangolins while raising awareness of the illegal wildlife trade.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, as well as our volunteers, sponsors, partners, and Irene Country Club for helping make the event such a success. Your generosity, enthusiasm, and commitment made the afternoon truly memorable.

Every step taken helped support the protection and rehabilitation of one of the world's most threatened mammals while shining a light on the urgent need to combat the illegal wildlife trade. Together, we showed what can be achieved when a community comes together behind a shared purpose.

Thank you to everyone who walked, donated, volunteered, and supported . Your support enables ERP to continue protecting pangolins through rehabilitation, conservation, and education.
