"Stand Up for Stand Down" is a community service project started by local Pilot International Clubs in metro Atlanta. The goal is to collect and sort donated toiletry items to be distributed to homeless veterans and their families in conjunction with the local VA Hospital's "Stand Down", held the first weekend in October. In 2014, with the support of other community based organizations and corpor

ations over 850 homeless veterans received assistance with these basic needs. The collection campaign runs from July 4th through Labor Day each year. We are a group of volunteers (otherwise employed full time) who focus on this project for three months each year. We do not have a website, but do provide other means to contact us.

We've had a terrific week!
We received a very generous donation of pre-packaged personal care bags from the Hilton Garden Inns - Northpoint, Marietta, North Atlanta/John's Creek, the Hyatt Place Atlanta - Perimeter Center, Canopy Atlanta-Midtown, and Doubletree Atlanta Perimeter -Dunwoody. Volunteers from these locations sorted and bagged, and then delivered the boxes and 12 cases of water to Governor-Elect Robin's office.

Today, the items were picked up by Matthew and Ulysses from the Salvation Army, for distribution to their multiple shelters and rehabilitation centers in the Atlanta metro area.

While we were unable to do our Stand Up for Stand Down event this year due to the pandemic, we are truly appreciative to have been selected by the hotel group to be the recipients of their service program! Thank you everyone.

This year's event is being cancelled due to the current pandemic. We want to ensure the safety of our volunteers and recipients.

We plan to resume again next year, God willing.

Thank you !

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS...

Our 2019 campaign is moving along very well and the donations are coming in steadily.

This post concerns our call for volunteers for our upcoming "Sort and Pack" parties. Our first will be Tuesday, August 13th, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. We have a new location this year due to needing more space and we have found a local business willing to host us. Adult Day of Dunwoody, located at One Dunwoody Park South, Suite 123, Dunwoody, GA 30338. Located just across I-285 from where we have sorted and pack the last seven years.

Dinner for our volunteers will be provided again this year by one of our generous sponsors, the Jim Ellis Automotive Group. You must register to participate in the event as we need to provide the caterer with an adequate count.

Please register by calling 770-864-5347 and leave your name and contact number. We will confirm the address with you at that time.

Thank you in advance.
