Last week Facebook suddenly unpublished the page of Refuse Fascism ATL (the Atlanta chapter of RefuseFascism.org) claiming that the page “goes against our community standards” without offering any explanation of the alleged violation or an opportunity to appeal the decision.
Facebook’s removal of Refuse Fascism ATL’s page is part of a wave of blatant suppression targeting left-wing organizations. For years, Facebook allowed QAnon conspiracists, militias, and fascists openly committed to genocidal white supremacy to organize openly on their platform. It took an attempted coup, unleashed by Trump on January 6, for Facebook to enforce its own terms of service for Trump. Now, under the guise of combating “extremism,” Facebook is attempting to silence the voices of those who have been organizing to stop the fascist forces it has allowed to proliferate. Mark Zuckerberg’s recent announcement that Facebook is working to become depoliticized represents more “both sides-ism” that equates fascist with anti-fascist organizing!
We call on everyone to oppose Facebook’s move to suppress Refuse Fascism and other progressive and left-wing organizations.
1. Send statements demanding an immediate reversal of Facebook’s actions to [email protected] and [email protected]. Send copies of your letters to [email protected].
