Foundation for Premature Infants

Foundation for Premature Infants To advocate for the right of all premature infants to be cared for in a developmentally supportive manner.

Donations go to providing continuing education for the brilliant clinicians who care for these most fragile vulnerable little people. Michael David Litten started his career in healthcare 40 years ago. He has been blessed to represent products and companies that make a difference in people’s lives. For 5 years he worked with Children’s Medical Ventures (ChMV), now Philips Healthcare. Since 1991, C

hildren’s Medical Ventures has been committed to improving the developmental outcomes of hospitalized infants worldwide by offering solutions to help clinicians help every baby reach his or her full developmental potential. When ChMV was founded back in 1991, developmental care was in its infancy, “miracle babies” weighted 1,000 grams, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was bright and noisy, and babies were routinely cared for by being placed flat on their back. Over the years, amazing changes in the care offered to premature and hospitalized infants has taken place. Developmental care practices are becoming more widely recognized throughout the world as an essential part of infant care. Babies are surviving at lower weights, and the NICU is becoming an increasingly more nurturing environment for babies and their families. Unfortunately, for far too many of the more than 500,000 premature infants born in the United States, care has not changed much since 1991. Michael’s passion for these most fragile vulnerable human beings was the genesis of the Foundation for Premature Infants, Inc. 501 (c) (3). His vision is for the Foundation to be the voice for those without a voice, premature infants. Michael believes that the Foundation can be an advocate for premature infants, assuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met in a developmentally supportive way.

MediCradle Update

The following new features have been added to the MediCradle -

- Bililumen Light - We've added a bililumen light in the ceiling of the unit, controllable by the main touch screen, to address jaundice and other issues.
- O2 Sensor - We've added an updated O2 sensor which is incredibly accurate, and can now account for differences in barometric pressure and altitudes.
- Humidity Sensor - We've added a humidity sensor, so that the user can determine the relative humidity inside the chamber much more accurately.

These new features have been independently tested and found to be fully compliant with all IEC international standards. We also have an updated website with lots of new information (available now in three languages), www.medicradle.org.

BREAKING NEWS: The first hospital in Nepal, with a recovering infant in the www.medicradle.com incubator. This precious little one is one of the first infants to use it.

God bless John Keltonic and his amazing team for making this a reality for the most fragile vulnerable little people in disadvantaged countries.

FPI was honored beyond measure to present a $5,000 check, our largest to date, to the Northside Hospital NICU on behalf of Graylan Cooke who was born at 27 weeks. The little fellow is doing well.

The money will be used to provide continuing education for the NICU staff, like the very special speech therapist, Sarah Mooney, who played such a vital role in Graylan's journey.

This incredible donation was made possible by the super amazing generosity of the www.beachroadcompany.com lead by CEO Brian Keller and Graylan's grandmother Shaeron Gray.

FPI AWARDS TWO SCHOLARSHIPS

I was blessed beyond measure to present two $700 scholarships at the recent www.BeachRoadCompany.com annual meeting, where I had been invited to speak about the FPI. The awards will be used for attendance to the 2025 National Association of Neonatal Therapists (NANT) conference.

It was super cool to be able to show FPI’s work in action at the meeting of a company that has been incredibly generous to the foundation. Christy Corley Hupka, PT and Lauren Reichart, Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), both do miracle work in the special care NICU at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies in Orlando, FL.

The Foundation for Premature Infants donated the scholarships so these brilliant therapists can stay current regarding best practices on how to care for premature infants, the most fragile vulnerable little people. Both Christy and Lauren commented on how important continuing education is to them.

“I’m excited FPI has raised enough money, through the generosity of companies like Beach Road, to be able to award these three scholarships,” said Michael D. Litten, Founder. The Foundation’s core belief is, as Horton said so succinctly and eloquently: “a person’s a person, no matter how small.”

It was the highlight of FPI's 13 yrs. for me to attend the Beach Road Company annual meeting, which was made possible by Shaeron Burnette Gray selecting us for, what at the time was, the largest single donation we have received.

After my presentation, I was brought to tears being presented w/ a check for $5,000 by CEO Brian Keller, in honor of Shaeron's most precious little grandson, Graylon, who was born preterm.

What an incredible company and group of folks, whose mission is to donate 30% of their revenue to charities, like FPI. God bless them.
