🌍 New National Hepatitis Elimination Profile: Explore Kyrgyzstan’s progress toward hepatitis elimination

Kyrgyzstan's NHEP highlights key achievements, challenges, and priorities shaping the country’s response to viral hepatitis.

Progress includes:
✔️ Governmental decrees and guidelines strengthening hepatitis services
✔️ Expanded HBV and HCV testing and treatment, including free services for selected populations
✔️ Validation of regional hepatitis B control targets
✔️ Nationwide serosurveys generating critical data to guide program planning

At the same time, important challenges remain—from strengthening electronic data systems and workforce capacity to reversing declining hepatitis B vaccination coverage.

What’s next? The country is prioritizing expanded access to free screening and treatment, stronger health information systems, workforce development, and higher hepatitis B vaccination coverage.

Could opt-out hepatitis C testing help close the gap in diagnosis and treatment in the U.S.?

A new Roll Call article explores how routine opt-out testing in emergency departments is helping identify people with hepatitis C who may otherwise never be tested, and how similar approaches could help accelerate hepatitis C elimination in the United States.

CGHE Director Dr. John Ward highlights an important challenge: while U.S. emergency departments were among the first to pilot opt-out hepatitis C testing in the 2010s, the approach never became widespread.

With effective cures available, expanding testing is only part of the solution. Strong linkage to care, patient navigation, and support are also essential to ensure that a diagnosis leads to treatment and cure.
