NOTES: Saturday, March 14 Sew Day

Hi Everyone,

We had an exciting day!

Our long-time friends from Crown Jewels of the Links (NC Chapter) International Trends and Services group joined our Sew Day and donated 338 beautiful Washcloths to be included in our DfG kits. They also donated a 20lb box of Poly-fil to help us with donating Comfort Pillows to local Breast Cancer Patients. The gals were so cute, they just chatted and chatted and caught up with each other (and us). With most of them being busy working gals, they don't have a lot of extra social time to spend together. They also cut off all the tags and folded the washcloths so they are ready for inclusion in the kits. When they got that done, they wanted to help more so we put them to work putting the ribbons in 54 DfG bags. We welcome them back anytime they can join a Sew Day.

Kristy and Haley joined us too. It was the first time Kristy had joined a sew day and I think she had a great time.

We have been busy sewing components for an April 16 DfG event that will be held in Hartsville, SC. We are very excited to participate in the event and meet with some DfG leaders.
To date we have the following:
- 1.390 Liners
- 230 Carry Pouches
- 161 Bags
- 203 Shields
We have another month of sewing and two more Sew Days before the event, but we are very proud of how many components we have ready so far.

Several of our team members attended a retreat in Gastonia the first weekend of March where we worked on a lot of blankets using either scraps from Liners over the years or nursery flannel. See the picture below of items donated to Lisa with Nurse Family Partnership on March 7. We also made some fun items that different team members showed us how to do; we made Prosperity Chickens, origami butterflies, and purses. We had a lot of fun and are registered to attend again in January 2027.

In the last two months we have also donated 300 Comfort Pillows to Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute that we make from beautiful donated fabrics that have patterns that are too light for DfG use. It is very sad that the numbers have doubled so far this year. The Nurse Navigators tell us their patients are trending much younger and sicker than they have in the past.

Next Sew Day:
Date: April 11
Time: 9:00-3:00 or whatever works for you
Location: Dilworth United Methodist Church, 605 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203

NURSE FAMILY PARTNERSHIP PARTY AND UPDATE-Thank you

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all excited as I am to attend our January sew day. I will send a reminder about our January 10th Sew Day in a few days. Just one thing about that. We will be holding our 2nd Annual White Elephant Gift Exchange so be thinking about what you plan to bring for the game.

The main purpose of this email is to THANK EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU.

Nurse Family partnership had their Holiday Party on December 10th and Charlotte represented our team. Thanks so much Charlotte, your the best ๐Ÿฅฐ We got such an awesome thank you from Lisa and she sent several cute pictures showing the children picking out their favorite blankets. It just warms my heart to know we are helping these children and making a difference while providing them some warmth and love โค๏ธ

Here is the note from Lisa and please check out the attached photos.

"A very special "Thank you" to the volunteers from the non-profit group "Days for Girls-Charlotte Team". When they receive fabric that they cannot use for their projects, they have started sewing baby quilts, bibs & burp cloths which they graciously donate to Nurse Family Partnership, Gaston County.
Today, while visiting my client and her baby, I was able to gift a beautiful quilt and bib. There are several other children who also live in the home.... I was fortunate to have enough quilts to give each of them a gift as well. You can see the excitement and appreciation! I'm sure they are all wrapped in warmth and love on this cold evening. ๐Ÿฅฐ Days for Girls actually sewed enough quilts that we were able to create a large display for clients of Nurse Family Partnership to each select their favorites at our recent holiday gathering!

This is an amazing collaboration between Days for Girls, FUMC Community Health Ministry and Nurse Family Partnership."

NOTE: The children's faces are covered from a security perspective.

I hope you enjoy the note and pictures as much as we do.

Thanks
Cindylu & Judith

LAST SATURDAY SEW DAY OF THE YEAR, NOVEMBER 8TH

Hi Everyone,

We were so excited to Welcome the Lee Park Baptist Church group to our sew day. These beautiful ladies assembled 50 kits that they are taking to Nicaragua, leaving Dec 31.
We will be excited to see pictures when the girls receive their kits. We were told it is like Christmas for the girls when they get their kits and know they won't have to miss school โค๏ธ

We had a small group this month as everyone is so busy, but thank you to all of you that dropped off completed items, and picked up more to sew!
We were a small but mighty group and we had a fun day catching up and planning for next year.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE: Not only did the girls put together 50 kits, but we have managed to sew 200+ kits of components so far that we will be sending to the Days for Girls Grove City, PA Warehouse as soon as we hold our November 20th Gastonia Sew Day. I will provide the total numbers being shipped out soon. The warehouses need components so they can keep up with the emergency needs across the world.

October 11, Days for Girls Sew Day Notes

Hi everyone,

We had an especially Fun and Crazy day with our "Special Project". We rarely do a project that everyone participates in, but everyone pitched in and we put ribbons in 135 + Days for Girls Bags. Some of us did more than others, but I won't mention any names...Ha Ha. You know who you are, but we had fun laughing. Some of the ladies that sew had never put the ribbons in the bags, and appreciate more the volunteers that typically support this task ๐Ÿ˜Š

We welcomed two visitors:
Wendy Kovac from the Pittsburg, PA Days for Girls Team. She is a special long time friend of Carol's and was visiting. It was so nice to meet you Wendy and thank you for pitching in and doing lots of different tasks. We loved having you!
Hailey, Carol's granddaughter, also visited and helped with a lot of tasks. I think Hailey has grown six plus inches since we saw her last, but it was fun to see your smiling face.

We accomplished so much:
95 Carry Pouches got surged and ready for sewing
Lots of Shields were sewn...75 were turned in
Lots of Bag work too, from glueing on tags, then sewing the tags on, marking them, and then actually sewing the bags. I do not know the actual count as ribbons were applied as soon as they were sewn
Lots of Liners were serged too..300+ were turned in...a lot were done at home
Show and Tell:
Judith brought her Halloween Quilt she made, it is so beautiful, she is so talented and did an amazing job!! See picture below..

Fundraiser:
We held a mini Fundraiser today thanks to Judith. She is always thinking about how we can make some money for our team ๐Ÿ˜Š
Judith recently Tye Dyed a bunch of T-Shirts she had and she brought them to sell. Thanks so much Judith for all your hard work to make this happen.
All of the youth T-shirts not sold Judith donated to Norma to put in the Shoe Boxes that will be donated to Samaritan's Purse in Charlotte.

Other Updates:
Natalia, Pam and I visited the Camino Health Clinic and donated a few kits and menstrual Cups. We look forward to going back again when they have a big event so we will have an opportunity to meet with more ladies
Judith, Sarah and I supported the Wingate Farmers Market on October 2 and sold our handmade items along with some of Judith's Tye Dyed T-Shirts
100 Port Pillows were dropped off to Finley at Levine Cancer Patient Resource Center on Sept 30
First United Methodist Church Women in Faith group held a hands-on project Oct 11 that Judith and Charlotte supported. The ladies put some ribbons in bags, marked liners and stuffed some Comfort Pillows. At the event they told Judith and Charlotte they wanted to donate our next 20lb box of Poly-fil we use for our Port Pillows and Comfort Pillows to help cancer patients in Charlotte and surrounding areas. Woo-hoo how sweet of them ๐Ÿ˜Š, thanks so much!
A few team members plan to attend the Dahlia Grove Lunch and Learn on Oct 25th to see if there is something we can do to support them
Lee Park Baptist Church is headed back to Nicaragua in December so they will be coming to our November Sew Day to assemble 50 kits
Carol, Judith, Sarah and I had a lot of fun at our first Linus Project event on Oct 4th. Judith and Sarah provided a Days for Girls presentation to all the ladies in attendance..thank you!

Our longtime friend Laurie Feeney finally came to a sew day....woo-hoo...and she made her first Days for Girls Bag!!

We had two visitors attend (2 of my PEO sisters) to get some help with crocheting. Thanks so much to both Kerry and Sarah for their expertise. I think they are well on their way now.

Wingate University Street Fair 2025 Market of Wonders, August 21

Sarah, Natalia, Pam, and Diane - Thank you so much for being the Days for Girls ambassadors last Thursday evening at the Wingate University Street Fair (August 21st). You all did an incredible job introducing Days for Girls (DfG) to the students that stopped by our table. You adeptly answered their questions and really got them excited about using our kit, menstrual cups or trying a POD (1 shield/1 liner)

We gave away the 99 repurposed Wingate Masks that Sarah brought us to work on at the retreat. We called them Ear Bud case or cord cases. They were a hit!

We had no clue how big this event was going to be, we could have taken a lot more items with us as we only have two PODS left. I even gave away the DfG kit I had in my car.

I wanted to share this with all of our sewers to let you know some of the things I heard, and how much of a difference this little team is making locally. Some of you may not know that we have a shelf in the Paw Provisions Pantry on campus for about 3 years.

Comments I heard:
* Thank you so much for your kit, I got one from the Paw Provisions Pantry last fall and I love it
* Thank you so much for your Menstrual Cup I got from the Paw Provisions Pantry last year, I love it and have not bought any pads or tampons since receiving it
* We would love to come and volunteer with you at your sew days
* My Minister will be contacting you about taking DfG kits on our next mission trip
* I cant wait to get home and try my kit, I look forward to not having to use disposable products
* These products are much better for my body

The students kept asking how much money it was to buy our products and were excited to learn that they were free. If the girls were interested but not quite sure they were ready to try DfG right now, the ladies told them they could get items at the pantry later.

PS: We did talk about when we go to the fundraisers at Wingate going forward that we would have our items on hand to give out too.

Our first fundraiser at Wingate University is this fall on October 2nd.

We did not take any pictures, but some were taken of us so we may have some to share later

I am already looking forward to next years event! ๐Ÿ˜Š
