Pray for Felicity

Pray for Felicity A page for PRAYERS, updates and information for Felicity McElroy, who fought brain cancer at four, and just found out it's back again.

It all began on Friday, April 22, 2011. Felicity was diagnosed with a brain tumor. An MRI confirmed the tumor was a 3cm by 2cm ependymoma. Felicity had surgery on Monday, April 25, 2011 to remove the tumor. During the surgery, doctors discovered that they had to leave a small 4-5mm portion of the tumor that was on her brain stem and could not be removed. This was unexpected, and it means a change

in the chemo plans. After lengthy, difficult, and trying medical journey, Felicity is on the mend and still recovering today. On top of Felicity’s cancer her mother, Amanda was pregnant with their third child. On June 2, 2011 this loving family received devastating news that Amanda’s younger brother Chad, passed away due to heat stroke. Amanda honored her brother’s memory by naming their third child June Elizabeth.

FINALLY A FELICITY UPDATE!!!!!!!!
Her ortho oncologist called tonight at 6:30. Her tumor has been identified as a giant cell tumor. There is some questionable pathology still pending but he is going to schedule surgery for June 9th. We won’t know the time until closer to surgery. She is so relieved to finally get this process started!

She is in recovery and doing great! The Dr. said he got a great sample, so fingers crossed that she won’t need another biopsy!!

Felicity Update- they JUST took her back about 10 minutes ago. The nurses couldn’t get her IV started. Poor kid has rotten veins. They stuck her 4x before getting a vein that didn’t blow. The doctor that is doing her biopsy today said that because of the make up of the tumor, most likely her ortho-oncologist would have to do a surgical biopsy. He said because her tumor is made up of both fluids and solids, the results of this kind of biopsy typically come back as inconclusive. The results should be back by end of next week.

Felicity update- Met with the ortho-oncologist today. Felicity’s tumor takes up 90% of her right tibia. It is one of four things, but her doctor feels that it is NOT malignant!!! After the biopsy tells us what kind of tumor it is, the doctor will move forward with treatment- surgery, draining, etc. She will have to have some sort of bone reconstruction due to the bone loss, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it!! Wednesday is biopsy day.

Felicity Update- Biopsy has been scheduled for next Wednesday, the 29th at UAB 0800.

Felicity update- Appointment has been scheduled!!! April 27th at 10:30. No word on a biopsy but at least we have an appointment!!

Felicity Update- talk about last minute! There was a cancellation- Felicity’s MRI is tomorrow morning at 7:45! Luckily it’s local, so there’s not going to be an extreme rush to go to Birmingham that early!

Felicity update- UAB finally called. Her new doctor is the only ortho-oncologist in the state of AL, so it takes a lot longer than it should. They’re ordering an mri with contrast (luckily we can have it done locally) to see how to move forward. They’re going to schedule the biopsy to find out exactly what cancer we are dealing with the same day as the office visit due to the drive time (1.5 hours).
Back in 2011 I stored June’s cord blood and tissue when she was born because Felicity’s neuro- oncologist told me there was an 85-90% chance she would develop leukemia later on.
Please keep Felicity in your thoughts and prayers, she is stressing out so much.

Unfortunately there are still no updates on Felicity. We’re anxiously awaiting that phone call. Her birthday is Saturday, she will be 19. Praise the Lord, she’s made it such a long way!! Thankfully it’s helping keep her mind off the worry of “what if” with her leg. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. Thank you to everyone for uplifting her and keeping her in your thoughts.

Felicity update- long post warning.
A couple of weeks ago Felicity started having pain in her right knee. My mom took her to the p*p and she had an X-Ray done. X-Ray came back as abnormal, so an MRI was done. The p*p wasn’t sure of results so we were referred to ortho. Ortho’s earliest was today 3/25. Ortho is referring her to Children’s oncology in Birmingham. She has a tumor growing in her tibia causing swelling in her knee. We won’t know any more details until we meet with Children’s. I’ll keep everyone updated when we get an appointment and more information.
