Our newest book recommendation is a short, and yet incredibly profound, read on the topic of solitude. In Out of Solitude, Henri Nouwen draws from three moments in Jesus' life where he sought solitude to receive His Father's love and discern His will.

Nouwen says, "In solitude we can slowly unmask the illusion of our possessiveness and discover in the center of our own self that we are not what we can conquer, but what is given to us. In solitude we can listen to the voice of him who spoke to us before we could speak a word, who healed us before we could make any gesture to help, who set us free long before we could free others, and who loved us long before we could give love to anyone. It is in this solitude that we discover that being is more important than having, and that we are worth more than the results of our efforts."

What an encouraging and important reminder for all of us. Whether you're serving in ministry, raising a family, working a 9-to-5 or studying for an exam, solitude has a way of revealing what we're holding too tightly to and allowing us to release it back to the one who gave it to us in the first place.

What if the end of your day could become one of the most sacred parts of it? That's the invitation of our next practice in the Back to the Source series — The Daily Examen.

The Daily Examen is a practice of reflecting on the day's events and discerning God's presence in them. As Adele Ahlberg Calhoun describes in her Spiritual Disciplines Handbook, it involves recalling moments of gratitude, asking for forgiveness, seeking wisdom for the future, and acknowledging God's presence throughout the day.

It's a practice rooted in the belief that God has been present and active in the ordinary moments of your day, in the conversations, the frustrations, the unexpected joys, and the quiet in between. The Examen simply creates space to go back and notice.

St. Ignatius of Loyola, who popularized this practice in the 16th century, offered a five step framework that has guided believers for generations. We're sharing those steps along with some helpful reflection questions on the next slide.

This practice is a beautiful fit for those in ministry who carry full and complex days. Rather than falling into bed exhausted and unaware, the Examen invites you to close the day with intention, gratitude, and a renewed sense of where God was with you all along.

We'll be sharing helpful resources over on our stories and saving them to a highlight so you can find them anytime.

What does it look like to be truly rooted — not just spiritually busy, but deeply planted?

In her post, Planted by the Riverbank, Beth draws from Psalm 1 with the kind of insight that slows you down and invites you to breathe.

This year, we want to keep the needs of our partners around the globe at the forefront so you can join us in supporting them through prayer. Today, we're focusing on our faithful partners serving across Southeast Asia.

Southeast Asia is home to vast unreached areas where our partners are quietly and faithfully laboring, building relationships, learning languages, and planting seeds of the Gospel in places that have yet to hear. The work is slow, intentional, and deeply costly. And it is exactly the kind of work that needs the covering of faithful prayer.

Please join us in prayer for:
- Language learning as they work to communicate and connect within their communities
- Favor with their neighbors as they build authentic, trust-filled relationships over time
- Unity within their team as they continue to grow together in the work they've been called to

What if reading Scripture could feel less like a task and more like a conversation? That's the heart of our next practice in the Back to the Source series — Lectio Divina.

Lectio Divina, or "divine reading," is a spiritual practice of meditating on Scripture in which you slowly and prayerfully read and re-read a text in order to listen and apply God's word to your life. As Soul Shepherding beautifully puts it, "The goal is not intellectual knowledge but conversational intimacy with God."

It's a practice that has shaped our community deeply. In fact, it's something our own staff does together every Monday morning to start our week. There's something about slowing down with Scripture together that sets the tone for everything that follows.

The practice moves through three simple but profound questions:

1. One Word — What word or phrase does the Holy Spirit impress on you?

2. Feelings — What do you feel, and what situation in your life today connects?

3. Invitation — What is God's personal invitation to you from this passage?

We'll be sharing helpful resources, including the booklet we love to use at our retreats and gatherings, over on our stories and in our highlight.

What would it look like to bring this kind of unhurried listening to your time in Scripture this week?

Celebration is woven into who we are at CV — so as we enter our 10th year, we're marking this season with ten moments that tell the story of God's faithfulness over this past decade.⁠

Our fifth moment introduces the third part of our mission. The "empower" from our desire to encourage, equip and empower leaders in ministry around the globe.

Empowerment is not self-confidence. It is Spirit-confidence.

Acts 1:8 declares, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.” The power to witness, to endure, to love enemies, to plant churches, to stay faithful in unseen places — comes from the Spirit.

Peter echoes this identity in 1 Peter 2:9: “You are a chosen people… that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

We are chosen vessels — not because we are impressive, but because God delights to fill ordinary clay with His glory (2 Corinthians 4:7).

To empower is to help leaders remember that the ministry is not sustained by their striving. It is sustained by the Spirit’s indwelling power.

At Chosen Vessels, empowerment means releasing leaders back to the field strengthened, clarified, and confident, not in themselves, but in the One who called them.
