Peoplestown is located in the Intrenchment Creek basin (South River watershed). The neighborhood is downhill and downstream of major development and highways, leading to massive stormwater runoff, sewage overflows, and flooding that have burdened generations of residents.
City of Atlanta has promised Peoplestown relief for decades with no follow through. Atlanta has invested in effective solutions that capture more stormwater for Old Fourth Ward Park and Rodney Cook Park in Vine City (both in the Chattahoochee watershed). Now, Atlanta is giving Peoplestown (Intrenchment Creek, South River) the ineffective leftovers.
To effectively and significantly reduce flooding: Stormwater needs to be captured and/or mitigated upstream โ at the source. The City of Atlanta must require private land owners to capture more of the stormwater on site before it rushes downstream and floods Peoplestown.
