For years we have resisted forming our own organization as we never wanted to run an "Organization"...We just wanted to help support orphan children. We simply wanted to associate ourselves with existing ministries and organizations that were already caring for the orphans of Kenya. For the great majority of the orphan homes that we have worked with, we have had wonderful success. Unfortunately, i
n a minority of situatiuons, we have seen our vision be corrupted by selfish people with their own evil agenda. Money and assets that were intended for orphans were stolen for personal gain and orphans were being mistreated and abused. Out of necessity, we are faced with new challenges that we never had to face before, but never again will I tolerate being associated with anyone not 100% honest...Therefore, to be better stewards of the funds that we have been giving towards the orphan ministry, we decided that prudence and economy would require that we set up a separate organization to do this work. Our goal is to have an organization that can do direct funding of projects if needed, but not exclusively so. We want to continue to work in cooperation with other churches and organizations to "get the job done". We want to be a liason between churches here in the USA and churches in Africa that are caring for orphans. We want to be a resource for those churches HERE who have no knowledge or ties to Africa who wish to be involved in orphan and widow ministry THERE. We want to encourage the formation of local chapters or associations of the Orphan and Widow Alliance to operate independently out of your own churches right here in America. We want to function much like the Gideons who have local representatives to do this work. We see our primary job as introducing and facilitating the allaince of American Churches to those churches in Kenya who are caring for orphans and widows. Our intention is to cross denominational lines to unite Christians on opposite sides of the world in the very basic functions of ministry to include ALL of the following: Widow and Orphan ministry, Church planting, Evangelism (particularly using the Jesus Film and open-air crusades). In years past, the American church has sent our missionaries to move and relocate all over the world...at GREAT financial cost and limited efficiency. We feel that a much better model would be to have minimal management of the orphan ministry by Western Missionaries who do not know the culture of share the native language. At least in Kenya, they do speak English as it was a former English colony. ...Who better to minister to Kenyan than Kenyans themselves?.. We feel that the native Kenyans are much better prepared to minister to their own people and can do so at a much lower cost and are much more available and willing than waiting for Westerners to "feel the call" to go. Why not partner with local Christians who want to minister to their own neighbors?
