Last week, NSTRC Co-Director Shannon Self-Brown and JoAnne Bielecki, Director of Training & Implementation, joined the SafeCare Kenya team for a stakeholder gathering and celebration of TEN years of implementing SafeCare!

Here's what Shannon had to say about the visit and the partnership:
"This past week in Nairobi was a rare and rewarding career moment. I had the privilege of working alongside the SafeCare Kenya research team that has been collaborating for the last decade. We’re now stepping into the next phase of partnership, imagining what sustainability looks like post grant funding. The creativity and commitment in the room were remarkable.

After nearly 20 years leading the National SafeCare Training and Research Center, seeing SafeCare thrive on a new continent is both humbling and energizing. The Africa Institute of Mental & Brain Health (AFRIMEB) team is extraordinary, and the program couldn’t be in better hands.

Deep appreciation to Jenelle Shanley and Lisa Armistead for their leadership of the NICHD‑funded research that has supported SafeCare Kenya."

NSTRC was honored to join our friends and colleagues from the National Alliance of Home Visiting Models, Institute FSP, and the Home Visiting Coalition on Capitol Hill yesterday for a briefing in celebration of National Home Visiting Week 2026.

This standing room only briefing really was a celebration--congressional staff heard powerful stories from state and tribal home visitors and moms about the impact of home visiting on children and families.

As comes to an end, we express our deep gratitude for the many advocates who lift up home visiting as an effective strategy for building safe, healthy, and nurturing communities.
