It was a joy to be in the Palmetto State this week for Children's Trust of South Carolina Building Hope for Children Conference!

As an extra special treat, the home visiting team at Children's Place, Inc. in Aiken, SC presented on their journey implementing multiple home visiting models— SafeCare and Healthy Families America. They spoke to the successes of this approach from all levels of the implementation, from their executive director, to their supervisors, to their home visitors.

Other highlights from the last two days:

● Hearing from our colleague Hannah Espeleta of Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Gina Beebe of SC First Steps on successful partnerships between child welfare and home visiting

● Assistant Secretary Alex Adams’ keynote on federal partnerships to prioritize the needs of America’s most vulnerable children, including the power and effectiveness of prevention (the panda bear meme was a great way to start!)

● Running into Sanquinita Martin from The Parenting Place — one of the 2026 National Home Visitors of the Year!

Today, we honor the contributions of Dr. Mutiso to the SafeCare Kenya project, a research initiative examining the impact of SafeCare with families in Kenya. Dr. Mutiso played a central role in this work. She was a trusted collaborator whose support strengthened our shared vision for extending the reach of SafeCare to families on the African continent.

Dr. Mutiso brought people together, encouraged others to think bigger, and made even the most challenging moments feel manageable with her tremendous optimism. We will honor Dr. Mutiso's legacy by ensuring that SafeCare continues to reach children and families who can benefit most. Her influence will remain an enduring part of the SafeCare Kenya project. She will be deeply missed.

NSTRC Co-Director Shannon Self-Brown and JoAnne Bielecki, Director of Training and Implementation, are honored to be presenting at the ISPCAN/ International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect Congress on Child Abuse and Neglect in Melbourne, Australia, August 24–27.

They'll be joining partners from Anglicare Victoria, Pacific University, and the Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo) to present on "Adapting the SafeCare parenting program to prevent child maltreatment and advance safety and healing globally".

The global event brings together 1,000+ researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and advocates from more than 80 countries under the theme Transforming Approaches to Safety and Healing. Learn more and register at ispcan.org/melbourne-2026.

We are so excited to be part of the Parents as Teachers National Center's 2026 International Conference Mini-Plenary on Cross-Model Collaboration in Home Visiting!

This year’s Parents as Teachers International Conference mini plenaries will bring together nationally recognized leaders to explore the relationships, systems and lived experiences that shape outcomes for children and families.

Attendees will hear from:

Steve Zwolak, founder of beTOGETHERstl, on emotionally responsive practices and how supported adults create spaces where children and communities can thrive.

Michael Huesca, board chair of Paternal Opportunities Programs & Services, on father and family engagement, lived experience and transforming child welfare into a family well-being system.

Dr. R.J. Gillespie, pediatrician, researcher and co-author of The Trauma-Informed Pediatric Practice, on trauma, resilience and early relational health.

Leaders from Parents as Teachers, SafeCare, HIPPY and the National Alliance of Home Visiting Models on how cross-model collaboration can improve access, continuity of care and support for families.

These sessions will offer research, real-world experience and practical strategies attendees can bring back to their programs and communities.

It was a joy to welcome Healthy Families America Policy and Government Relations Manager Melea Rose-Waters to town this week for a great lunchtime conversation with our friends at PCAGeorgia.

We also had the chance to connect with our colleagues at GSU’s Center on Health and Homelessness. We shared how home visiting is an effective support strategy for families experiencing homelessness and learned about the incredible work CHH is doing locally and nationally.

NSTRC is fortunate to be a part of so much wonderful work happening at Georgia State University School of Public Health!

One of the best parts of this work is the opportunity to build relationships with others who are equally passionate about supporting children and families.

A big thank you to Positive Childhood Alliance Georgia-PCAGeorgia for hosting lunch this week and to National SafeCare Training and Research Center for bringing us together. It was wonderful to spend time with colleagues, share ideas, learn from one another, and strengthen connections.

We may represent different organizations and home visiting models, but we share a common commitment to helping children and families thrive. We're grateful for the conversation and look forward to continuing to work together.

Sending a huge congratulations to the 29 SafeCare partner agencies who achieved their Agency Accreditation during the first quarter of 2026!

Agency accreditation is a key part of SafeCare's quality assurance and fidelity monitoring process. More importantly, though, it's a time to re-connect with our amazing implementing agencies around the world and hear about the incredible partnerships they form with families during the course of the year.
