IN MEMORIAM

The National Association of Chinese Americans wishes to share the following announcement:

It is with the deepest sorrow and the heaviest of hearts that the National Association of Chinese Americans formally announces the passing of Mr. Ricardo "Ric" Hubler, beloved former President of our NACA-Atlanta Chapter and steadfast champion of the Asian American community, who departed this life whilst in pursuit of his greatest adventure upon the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.

"Ric" Hubler served NACA with uncommon distinction, grace, and devotion. During his tenure as President from 2014 to 2018, he exemplified the highest ideals of our mission — fostering understanding, building bridges between cultures, and advancing the cause of friendship between peoples of all nations. His contributions to the Atlanta community, to Georgia Tech, and to the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce were a testament to a life lived entirely in service to others.

Those fortunate enough to have known Ric will long remember his warmth, his brilliance, his generosity of spirit, and the effortless manner in which he made every person feel seen, valued, and welcomed. He was, in every measure, a gentleman of the highest order.

He is survived by his devoted husband, Mr. Jeff Hubler; his mother, Mrs. Rosalina Hubler; his brother, Mr. Will Hubler; and his nephews, Presley and Tate, to whom we extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences. May they find comfort in the knowledge that his legacy shall endure in all whom he touched.

Ric Hubler shall be profoundly and irreplaceably missed.

Issued with great solemnity on behalf of the National Association of Chinese Americans,

Lani Wong
Chairwoman, National Association of Chinese Americans

PRESS RELEASE

National Association of Chinese Americans Mourns the Passing of Nobel Laureate
Professor Chen Ning Yang

[Atlanta, Georgia] – [October 20, 2025]

The National Association of Chinese Americans (NACA) deeply mourns the passing of Professor Chen-Ning Yang, a towering figure in theoretical physics and a Nobel laureate and NACA’s founding national president (1977-1980), who passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 103. Professor Yang’s groundbreaking contributions to the understanding of particle physics fundamentally reshaped our understanding of the universe and left an indelible mark on scientific history.
Born in Hefei, Anhui, China, in 1922, Professor Yang emigrated to the United States and, alongside his
colleague Tsung-Dao Lee, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1957 for their revolutionary theorythat the conservation of parity does not hold for weak interactions. This discovery challenged long-held assumptions in physics and opened new avenues for research, earning them the distinction of being the first Chinese Nobel laureates.
"Professor Chen Ning Yang was not only a brilliant scientist but also an inspiring role model for
generations of Chinese Americans and aspiring scientists worldwide," said Lani Wong, Chair of NACA. “His intellect, dedication, and relentless pursuit of knowledge exemplified the very best of humanendeavor. We are incredibly proud of his heritage and the immense impact he had on the ChineseAmerican and global scientific communities."
Beyond his monumental scientific achievements, Professor Yang was a dedicated educator and
advocate for scientific exchange. He held distinguished positions at institutions such as the Institute forAdvanced Study at Princeton and Stony Brook University, where he mentored countless students andcontinued his profound research. He was also a passionate proponent of fostering stronger scientific ties between China and the United States, playing a crucial role in promoting academic and cultural exchange. In 1977, he was elected the first president of the National Association of Chinese Americans (NACA), which he founded with other prominent Chinese Americans.
NACA extends its deepest condolences to Professor Yang’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. His legacy of scientific inquiry, intellectual courage, and cultural bridge-building will continue to inspire us all.
