The U.S. beef supply is safe. 🥩 New World Screwworm (NWS) is an animal health issue, not a food safety concern.
We have full confidence in the Food Safety & Inspection Service (FSIS)’s ability to continue ensuring that all beef that enters our food supply is safe and wholesome.
A confirmed case of NWS has been detected in Texas. NWS is a serious pest that affects livestock, pets, wildlife, and less commonly, people and birds.
However, the American cattle industry is prepared. For 18 months, NCBA has been working with USDA, FDA, EPA, Congress, state animal health partners, and counterparts in Mexico to make sure that producers have the tools and information they need to fight this pest.
