A little champagne, beautiful music and a fascinating journey into the Baroque era made for a memorable Atlanta Toulouse afternoon, soiree.
Hosted in the lovely home of Brenda Rawls, approximately 20 members and guests gathered for champagne and light bites before a special presentation by Uta Marks, violinist with the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra.
Uta introduced us to the Baroque violin and demonstrated how it differs from its modern counterparts, not only in the structure of the instrument and bow, but also in playing technique and sound. Hearing her perform several compositions on both violins brought those distinctions vividly to life.
Most compelling was Uta's passion for historically informed performance, allowing this beautiful music to be heard as closely as possible to the way its original composers and audiences would have experienced.
Afternoons like this capture what makes the ATSCC Atlanta-Toulouse Sister City Committee so special: cultural discovery, engaging conversation and warm fellowship - often in settings, as intimate and gracious as this one.
