Garden Club of Ellijay

Garden Club of Ellijay The Garden Club of Ellijay's purpose is to promote horticulture and gardening activities that reflect beautification, conservation and education.

The Garden Club of Ellijay meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Gilmer County Library. Social time starts at 11:30 am and the meeting starts at 12:00pm. To become a member come to one of our meetings or contact us through a private message, post a request to be contacted or you may contact the President of our Club, Michelle Culberson, at [email protected] or by phone at 678-697-4004. Please come visit us, we would love for you to become a member! (Note: Our December meeting is a Christmas Luncheon held at a different location and our June meeting is a picnic also held at another location. The club does not meet in July or August each year.)

We had a great meeting yesterday with 4 guests attending, thank you for joining us, Amy, Amber, Debbie and Mary!
Our guest speaker was Beth Thomson with the Blue Ridge Raptors. We met 3 Owls and 2 Hawks. Very interesting program, thanks Beth!
Our refreshment committee was Brenna, Sharon P., Linda, Sharon B., Shari, Lisa and Donna. Good food, thank you!
Our new club officers were nominated and presented. Congratulations to the 2027-2029 President, Madeline Chandler, Vice President, Wendy Williams, Secretary, Chris Roberts and Treasurer, Lisa Harrison.

Garden Club of Ellijay hosted the 68th annual Laurel District fall meeting yesterday at the Dalton Convention Center. Preparation started months ago with our theme “Rooted in the Mountains”. Our guest speaker, Mark Warren, presented “The Taming of the Few: Wild Plants in Your Garden”. Our Co-President, Joanne Waddey, welcomed everyone and invited everyone to visit Ellijay’s Apple Festival and our wineries.
Our club received a Standard of Excellence Award for all of our accomplishments in 2025. We were also recognized for our scholarship donation to the Garden Club of Georgia.
Thank you to our club members that helped with the table centerpieces, putting the gift bags together and attending the convention. It was a success! Members were Joanne, Donna, Edna, Helen, Meg, Marti, Nancy, Lisa, Brenna, Barb, and Diane.

Our Junior Gardeners enjoyed a class on “What Plants Need to Grow”, taught by Wendy Williams. Each 4th grader planted something and will look forward to harvesting. Squash seeds, carrot seedlings, sweet potato slips and green bean plants are all planted. Thank you GCE members, Wendy Wms, Becky R., Carol R., Chris and Marci!
