✨ Board Member Spotlight: John Brogan ✨

John has served on the Nicholas House Board of Directors since 2023 and is a member of the Development Committee. Professionally, John serves as Director - Market Leader for U.S. Wealth Advisory at BlackRock.

John first became involved with Nicholas House around 2018 through volunteer opportunities with BlackRock, including a neighborhood cleanup and later holiday drives and service projects. After learning more about the mission and working directly with families, he felt increasingly drawn to the organization’s work.

What resonates most with John is that Nicholas House goes beyond providing shelter by equipping families with the tools and support needed to achieve long-term independence and stability.

“The families that come to Nicholas House often haven’t had access to the opportunities or resources they need,” John shares. “Helping provide those tools and support systems can truly change the trajectory of a family’s future.”

One of the most meaningful parts of John’s involvement has been teaching financial literacy courses for families participating in Nicholas House programs. Through budgeting, savings, and personal finance workshops, John has helped families build skills that support long-term financial stability and self-sufficiency.

John says the experience has been both eye-opening and rewarding, especially seeing how eager many participants are to learn and grow. He values meeting families where they are and helping make financial concepts approachable and practical for everyday life.

Outside of Nicholas House, John enjoys spending time with his wife, Stacey, and their two children, Lauren and Griffin, who keep the family busy with sports, cheerleading, and school activities. He also enjoys golfing, exercising, pickleball, and staying active outdoors. Their chocolate lab, River, is also an important part of the family, and Stacey is actively involved with Atlanta Lab Rescue.

John is also involved in his church community at Christ the King and in his neighborhood HOA.

Thank you, John, for your leadership, generosity, and commitment to helping Nicholas House families build brighter futures 💙

✨ Employee Spotlight: Ebonie ✨

As a Case Manager in Nicholas House’s New Horizons Dekalb Program, Ebonie works closely with families who have experienced chronic homelessness and both physical and mental disabilities.

Ebonie has spent the majority of her career working in the nonprofit and homelessness sector, with experience at organizations including the Salvation Army Red Shield, City of Refuge, and Solomon's Temple among others. Her passion for this work began early in life, inspired by her grandmother’s involvement in community service at Hands on Atlanta, where she first saw the importance of showing up for people in need.

What keeps Ebonie motivated is seeing families overcome barriers, build confidence, and realize they are capable of more than the circumstances they’ve experienced.

“The most rewarding moment is when families finally get their keys,” Ebonie shares. “You see the relief, the tears, and the hope for a new beginning.”

For Ebonie, this work is deeply personal. She understands how cycles of homelessness and instability can continue without the right support, accountability, and opportunities. She believes helping families move toward lasting stability requires more than temporary assistance — it requires encouragement, structure, and multiple levels of support.

Ebonie is also passionate about helping others better understand the realities families experiencing homelessness face every day. She hopes donors and volunteers recognize that their support matters and can make the difference between families having food, shelter, warmth, and basic necessities during difficult seasons.

“Without donations and support, homelessness would be harder to navigate to self-sufficiency,” Ebonie says.

Known for her honesty, humor, and tough love approach, Ebonie works hard to meet families where they are while also encouraging them to push toward greater independence.

Outside of work, Ebonie enjoys watching movies — especially Pixar, DreamWorks, and Disney animated movies— and spending time with her godchildren.

Thank you, Ebonie, for the compassion, dedication, and advocacy you bring to Nicholas House families every day 💙

✨ Board Member Spotlight: Mary Bready ✨

Mary Bready joined the Nicholas House Board of Directors in February 2026 and currently serves on the Capital Campaign Committee. While she is new to the board, her connection to Nicholas House spans nearly a decade through volunteerism and community involvement.

Mary first became involved with Nicholas House through her church, Northside Methodist, and through service organizations including National Charity League and Young Men’s Service League. Over the years, she has participated in dinner services, supply drives, Lunch & Learn events, and other volunteer opportunities supporting Nicholas House families.

As Vice President of Philanthropy for the National Charity League Peachtree Paces Chapter, Mary also helped bring Nicholas House on as one of the chapter’s supported philanthropies, helping introduce more families and volunteers to the organization’s mission.

What resonates most with Mary about Nicholas House is its commitment to keeping families together while they experience homelessness and work toward stability.

“That focus on preserving the family unit is such an important distinction,” Mary shares. “Nicholas House supports families of all compositions while helping them move forward together.”

Some of Mary’s favorite experiences with Nicholas House have come through interacting directly with children and families during volunteer activities and helping introduce new people to the organization through tours and Lunch & Learn events. She especially values the personal, welcoming environment Nicholas House creates for both parents and children.

Outside of Nicholas House, Mary remains actively involved in her church community and other local volunteer efforts. In her free time, she enjoys tennis, pickleball, reading, playing mahjong with friends, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Thank you, Mary, for your continued leadership, volunteerism, and commitment to Nicholas House families 💙

✨ Board Member Spotlight: Ollie Moore ✨

For more than 25 years, Ollie has faithfully supported Nicholas House families through service and compassion.

Ollie currently serves on the Nicholas House Board of Directors and is a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, helping guide the organization’s future growth while staying rooted in its mission and values. He has also previously served on the marketing and fundraising committees.

Professionally, Ollie serves as Assistant Vice President of Marketing at Delta Community Credit Union, where he has worked for the past 17 years. Service, however, has always been central to his life.

Originally from New Jersey, Ollie moved to Atlanta in 2000 after college with a personal commitment to give back to his community. Soon after arriving, a colleague invited him to volunteer at Nicholas House serving dinner to families at the shelter — a simple “yes” that became a decades-long commitment.

Since 2000, Ollie has faithfully helped coordinate and serve monthly dinners for Nicholas House families, rarely missing a service date. Even during difficult personal seasons, including job loss during the 2007 financial crisis and again in 2009, he continued showing up for families each month.

One memory from that time has stayed with him. Shortly after losing his job in 2009, Ollie unexpectedly ran into a former Nicholas House resident who recognized him and reminded him that the kindness he had shown others mattered. Her encouragement gave him hope during a difficult moment in his own life.

What resonates most with Ollie about Nicholas House is the organization’s commitment to helping families experiencing homelessness not only find shelter, but also gain the resources and support needed to rebuild stability and move forward.

Outside of Nicholas House, Ollie remains active in service throughout the Atlanta community through organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Hands On Atlanta, and other volunteer initiatives. He also enjoys traveling with his partner, interior design, fitness, and spending time with family.

Thank you, Ollie, for your extraordinary years of service and unwavering commitment to Nicholas House families 💙

✨ Employee Spotlight: Erika ✨

As a Case Manager in Nicholas House’s New Horizons program, Erika works closely with families experiencing chronic homelessness as they rebuild stability, heal from trauma, and work toward long-term self-sufficiency.

Erika’s passion for helping others started at a young age, inspired by her mother’s nonprofit work helping students prepare for college. That early exposure to service sparked her desire to build a career helping others.

Before joining Nicholas House, Erika worked in nonprofit and community-centered roles, including supporting children in daycare settings and serving at Grady Hospital, experiences that deepened her passion for working with vulnerable families in Atlanta.

When Erika discovered Nicholas House, she was drawn to the organization’s commitment to long-term stability and self-sufficiency for families. Through her work, Erika helps families access stable housing while connecting them to resources and support for lasting change.

In her role, Erika focuses on the importance of mental health support for both parents and children, believing healing is critical to breaking cycles of homelessness and instability.

“A lot of families have experienced difficult things that were never fully addressed. Helping families access mental health support can change the trajectory for both parents and children.”

One of Erika’s favorite moments at Nicholas House was helping a teen prepare for prom. Watching her light up while trying on dresses reminded Erika how meaningful moments of joy and confidence can be.

Outside of work, Erika enjoys reading, hiking, and exploring waterfalls around Georgia. After long days, she recharges by spending time with family and friends, going on walks, watching movies, and finding moments to quiet her mind and reset.

Thank you, Erika, for the compassion, advocacy, and care you bring to Nicholas House families every day 💙
