Dear Friends of The Herring Foundation of Hope,
Since our founding in 1998, The Herring Foundation of Hope has delivered thousands of Hope Kits to cancer patients in every state in the USA. We have been touched and motivated by some of the most amazing stories of healing and compassion. We have proudly shipped kits for free (or for a nominal charge), which was only made possible by our numerous fund-raising events -- like golf tournaments, charity balls, and road races -- where so many of you gave generously of your time and talents and funds. The Foundation has raised over $1 million since our inception, and because we are an all-volunteer organization, a significant percentage of the monies raised went directly to supporting newly diagnosed cancer patients.
Thanks so much to everyone – including our initial group of founders, our generous event sponsors, those who participated in our events, everyone who volunteered in any capacity, and our current Board of Advisors. Everyone has been instrumental to our success. Nothing we have accomplished would have been possible without you.
About 18 months ago, market dynamics and other factors led the Board of Advisors to discuss our past and evaluate our future. As a result, we announced last year that we would permanently close our operations on December 31, 2018, to coincide with our 20th Anniversary.
As we wind down this month, we will be donating all remaining Hope Kits and associated items to local charities -- such as libraries, shelters, missions, support groups, and cancer-focused organizations, in hopes that the information can be shared in order to continue supporting our cause a bit longer.
We began this journey to honor our dear friend/son/husband, Jeff Herring, and we all feel that we have done that beyond our wildest dreams. It has been our pleasure to work alongside so many of you to make that happen. We have been blessed to be part of this organization, to have many old friends and new acquaintances join our mission over the past two decades, and to have so many good times while supporting such a worthwhile cause.
In closing, thank you again for your support! Of course, unfortunately, new cancer diagnoses are still prevalent in our world, most every minute of every day. Each of us is touched all too often by cancer. There is still work to be done. We encourage you to consider redirecting your time and talents and donations towards another worthy organization(s) that focuses on eradicating this ruthless disease for good; and/or assists those who are afflicted.
With deepest appreciation,
THE BOARD OF ADVISORS
