Catalyst Sports Asheville is excited to welcome riders from the Shepherd Center for an Adaptive Mountain Bike ride this Saturday at DuPont State Recreational Forest!

We’re looking for volunteer support riders to help guide and ride alongside participants on the trails. Support riders play a key role in making these rides possible for all.

This winter's weather has been tough on our trails. Saturday's Asheville Chapter aMTB ride is cancelled due to poor trail conditions. We can't wait for things to warm up and dry out!

Catalyst Sports – Asheville is looking for experienced mountain bikers to serve as Volunteer Support Riders for our adaptive mountain bike ride at DuPont State Recreational Forest this Saturday!

Support Riders play a key role by riding alongside adaptive athletes, helping with trail guidance, pacing, encouragement, and problem-solving on the trail. Your skills and stoke help make these rides safe, fun, and empowering for everyone involved.

"Climbing saved my life. Before I had words, I had the wall. It was the one place I could go where the world saw my ability not my disability. On the wall communication between my body and brain is fluid. I do not have Apraxia. I appear normal. In fact, I am extraordinary. My hands and feet know where to go and how to get there. I can see the patterns and my hands and feet respond. I feel wiser and stronger than I ever have. My mental health soars to sights unseen. I leave my worries behind and it’s just me. The me many never see. The me that can. The me that only becomes visible on the wall. I leave behind every lie that has ever been spoken. I leave behind doubt. I leave behind all the fear. I leave behind communication. I don’t need it. My body is doing all the talking. I shine bright. The world stops and sees me clearly. I have nothing to prove. I have dignity. I have the entire gym looking at me in awe. Never had that happened to me before. I was usually overlooked. No one believed I had the mental or physical strength to do most anything. Then I started climbing. I usually need intense focus to do most motor activities. With climbing I don’t. I just need to see it. The wall lights up to show me the way. My body responds. Instantly my mood changes. I feel lighter than air. Happiness consumes me to a degree I only feel there. Lost are my thoughts. The pain of so many years silent disappears to the void. I am complete. My ghosts fade into the mist. Leaving me to ascend upward to the top. A stronger version of myself in solidarity with the wall. Climbing saved my life and helped me find my words."
