The DREAM It Forward Foundation (DIFF) was founded as a Georgia Domestic Nonprofit in 2012 and obtained its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in February 2014. The organization was created to mentor, and encourage educational advancement, life skills, and cultural awareness during K-12, college, and young adulthood for teen girls and single-mothers 25 and younger. During 2014, the organization mentored
approximately 5 teen girls and 2 single-mothers with the help of 5 mentors.
By 2015, when the founder Yaminah Childress, received a Pollination Project Grant and increased visibility for her outstanding commitment in philanthropy and social change, the organization saw a surge in parents looking for mentorship opportunities for their children, not just teen girls. Therefore, by mid 2015, DIFF expanded its program offerings to include mentor services for all youth 18 and younger, but kept its teen girls and single-mother programs.
Within a one-year time frame, and very minimal operating budget, DIFF has started to make an impact in our local communities by offering one-on-one, and small group mentoring, afterschool, in-school club, and summer camp mentoring programs and at-risk and summer food programs. In the past year, we have reached over 1000 mentees, served over 10000 meals to children in at-risk communities, and fulfilled the holiday wish lists of 10 families. We will continue to grow and become a pillar in our communities by supporting our neighbors and being community partners for excellence and change.
Since inception we have partnered with and created lasting and valuable relationships with many local businesses both for-profit and nonprofit, and state and federal governments.
As we continue to move forward and expand our reach to communities in need, we have and always will work on the pay it forward concept, and require our participants to volunteer within the organization. This structure will ensure generations of sustainability and successful leaders, and has helped reach many under-served families with minimal resources.
