Words from the Wise Wednesday:

Mrs. Lee, 88 years young, shared this advice:

“You’re never too old to learn and try new things.”

When we hear that, many of us probably think about technology. After all, it seems to change every day, and sometimes just keeping up feels like learning a new language. A language we have no choice but to learn and to grow with it.

But Mrs. Lee was talking about something much bigger. She was talking about living.

Trying something new. Going somewhere you have always wanted to go. Learning a skill. Reconnecting with someone you love. Doing something that scares you a little. Laughing more. Saying yes. Having something to look forward to.

It made me think about one of the questions at the very heart of Second Wind Dreams®:

Why do we stop asking people what their dreams are just because they grow older?

We ask children what they want to be when they grow up.
We ask young adults what they want to accomplish.
We ask each other about goals, bucket lists, and plans for the future.

And then, somewhere along the way, we stop asking.

At Second Wind Dreams®, we believe that question should never disappear:

“What is your dream?”

A dream does not have to be big or extravagant to matter. Sometimes it is attending a baseball game again. Feeling the ocean one more time. Riding a horse. Seeing an old friend. Getting dressed up for a special night. Learning something completely new.

Dreams give us purpose. They give us anticipation. They remind us that there is still more life to live.

Mrs. Lee is right.

We are never too old to learn. Never too old to try. And never too old to dream.
