Why we don’t talk about the Eastside Beltline streetcar much anymore:
1. The project was canceled.
2. Better ideas exist— bus lanes, infill MARTA stations, etc.
3. The Beltline path needs attention.

They built “the biggest cycle network in Latin America, deployed one of the world’s largest electric bus fleets, and greened swathes of the city. These efforts have reportedly helped cut air pollution by 24% since 2018…”

In other words, they refrained from big, shiny, absurdly expensive projects and put a lot of money towards the basics: and .

Despite the unforeseen issues that arose during construction, this rubber tire project will likely come in at 1/4 the cost of a tram. Best of all, it connects to— but doesn’t disrupt— the Atlanta Beltline.

Why support the TrailsATL plan?
Look to , where kids are given a freedom that our children lack: “Guided through the city by Paris School Streets Project Head Priscilla Benedetti, we saw children empowered to safely travel to and .”
You can see the beginnings of this in : “As I ride up the Beltline’s Eastern Trail each morning during the school year, I encounter waves of children south to the David T. Howard Middle School and north to Midtown High School.”
This underscores how the Atlanta Beltline is the centerpiece of the TrailsATL plan— and the urgent need to improve it with the “Wheels & Heels” proposal.

regulation requires regional coordination. offers an example as to why a piecemeal approach will result in chaos.
