OUR HALLOWEEN OCTOBER MEETING

Our Halloween-themed October meeting takes place on the Beltline at Three Peaches Cafe'-Gelato. Our hostess, Kendra Bauser, was trained in Italy by gelato grand master Peppe Cuti. She imports a variety of coffee directly from Central America and makes a killer cappuccino! She will provide samples of various coffees, gelato, and smoothies. Given the proximity of Halloween, we hope you seize the moment to come in a costume or a mask.

We will set up with tables and seating on the Beltline (the back-side of the cafe'), and will move indoor in the case of rain. As usual, this is a pot-luck event where you can bring food and drinks. We will provide tables, ice, water, plates, glasses, forks and napkins (and a bottle opener!). You may want to wear grass-friendly outdoor walking shoes. Don’t forget your mosquito repellent. Of course, we always accept donations for our Film Festival, especially from those who come empty-handed.

PLEASE, ATTENTION MEMBERS: Parking is a critical issue, as you cannot park in the front parking lot facing the entrance of the cafe. The company that manages the parking lot will boot the car of any customer who parks and walks to the Beltline or nearby park - and we have no control over this. Please, park your car on the residential streets of Virginia Avenue or on the adjacent Kanuga Street.

OUR NEXT MEETING, ALL ABOUT SLOW FOOD!

Our next meeting takes place at the house of our long-time supporter Donata DeFilippi, a lifetime representative and advocate of the Slow Food Movement. Donata’s parents were both born near Torino in the Piedmont region of Italy. She has carried on the culture of food through her participation in the Slow Food movement, originated by Carlo Petrini, in the late 1980s as a reaction to the outrageous attempt of McDonald’s to open an outlet in Roma, spreading thereafter around the globe in opposition to highly-processed, preservative-rich and adulterated grub. No Italian would consider getting near that toxic stuff. With the awareness of what damage that type of massive production costs to our economy, our health and our environment, Donata supports the local sustainable farming movement by buying, cooking, canning, and eating-- and producing videos to urge others to adopt sustainable food practices Her expertise on food practices goes from food production and waste, to sustainability and healthy living. Donata is also a communications trainer primarily servicing federal agencies. There will be a power point presentation prior to dining.

Our Hostess: Donata De Filippi
Date: Sunday, January 21, 2024
Time: 6:00 p.m.

OUR FAMOUS FESTA DI NATALE!

Our host, Giancarlo Pirrone, is one of the original founders of our Club. He is our director and a steady contributor to this bulletin. His career spans from broadcasting and audio-technology, to teaching architecture, and from residential construction and renovations to investments and restaurants. His work can be viewed at this website. His passions lay in the visual arts and music. Considered by many as the peak of our club's spirit, this party is a collective effort, and we look forward to your participation.

A FUND RAISER: Given that this is our largest annual fundraiser, the door fee is $20.00 a person, that is if you bring food and/or a bottle of wine. It includes one raffle ticket per individual. Please, cash only! Those who come empty handed pay a $30 fee per person, which still includes one raffle ticket. You can increase your odds by purchasing more than one ticket. However, for fairness to all, just one prize per person will be awarded. Raffle tickets are $5.00 each. Of course, we accept additional donations, no matter how small. Please, cash only!

FOOD & WINE: this is still a pot-luck party. This time you may prepare a dish - ready to be consumed - or buy some Christmas sweets. Due to the nature of the house and its art collection, wine or Prosecco are strictly white! Italian Panettone, any time! No time to shop? Don't worry, bring us your cash contribution. All funds collected go to support our annual Italian Movie Festival.

DIRECTIONS: We are located in the heart of Ansley Park, in the modern white house at the corner of Beverly Road and Montgomery Ferry Road. Look for the large Italian flag by a red flashing traffic light. Rely on Waze, rather than Google Maps, which gives a faulty destination point. Even with a good GPS, you may get lost in Ansley Park, and you can always call us. Please, park downstream on Montgomery Ferry in such a manner as NOT TO BLOCK neighboring driveways. Ansley Park residents have no patience with such violations. Please, drink responsibly!
