This is Mama Amina. She is the sole survivor of her nuclear family from Somalia. She lost her husband and children to war. Since arriving to the US in 2007, she settled in Clarkston, and in spite of not being a citizen, she has worked for the campaigns of every Democratic candidate from local officials to the president. She has been interviewed and featured in media from Atlanta Magazine to NYT to CNN. In her spare time, she volunteers to help newly arrived find their footing. She has opinions on everything: "I don't understand why evil people don't love the LGBT community. The LGBT community has a mother, just like me." She never mentions it, but she lives with other disabilities like congestive heart failure and high blood pressure. Now, Mama has lost her food stamps and health coverage, because she can't afford to file her official citizenship papers ($685)--and now, her citizenship is in jeopardy, simply because she hails from Somalia, and is now on the ban list. She must submit by this Friday, February 3rd. Please, No amount too small! Share far and wide!
