WALEC was honored to return to the Jackson Trail Fire Department, share Korean food, and thank the firefighters who work every day to keep our community safe.

Supporting our first responders shouldnโ€™t be limited to special occasions. A visit, a warm meal, or simply saying, โ€œThank you for your service,โ€ can mean so much.

Letโ€™s build a community where those who protect and serve know that they are valued and appreciated.

๐ŸŽ‰ WALEC warmly welcomes Representative Kim Schofield as our newest family member and congratulates her on being appointed as an Honorary Advisor!

Representative Schofield has shown strong interest in and support for WALECโ€™s work and has agreed to join us in long term projects focused on strengthening community engagement, communication, public safety, and cooperation.

Representative Schofield was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2017 and currently represents House District 63, which includes Southeast Atlanta, East Point, College Park, Forest Park, and Hapeville. She currently serves as Secretary of the House Urban Affairs Committee and is also a member of the Creative Arts & Entertainment, Health, Industry and Labor, and Small Business Development Committees.

Throughout her public service, she has been engaged in a wide range of community issues, including healthcare access, affordable housing, education, senior protection, workplace and wage equity, and environmental justice. She also brings diverse experience in healthcare, finance, transportation, education, and the nonprofit sector.

We also shared meaningful thoughts about the legacy and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His message of unity, dignity, justice, and community is not limited to one race or one community, but represents values that people from all backgrounds can carry forward together.

We are honored that Representative Schofield is now part of the WALEC family as an Honorary Advisor.

WALEC had the meaningful opportunity to visit the Johns Creek Police Department again after two years and individually meet with the officers and investigators dedicated to keeping the community safe.

Johns Creek is a diverse and welcoming city, with approximately 30% of its population being Asian. In a community where people from different cultures and backgrounds live together, communication, understanding, and trust between law enforcement and residents are especially important.

During our visit, we spoke with officers and investigators from various departments about community safety and ways to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement and the Asian community. Hearing directly from those serving on the front lines and sharing ideas with them was truly meaningful.

We were also given an extensive tour of the department, including interview rooms, the polygraph area, fi****ms simulation training room, fitness gym, classrooms, conference rooms, and other operational facilities.

The tour was personally guided by Major Coble, one of the original members of the Johns Creek Police Department who helped establish the department 19 years ago, along with Investigator V.B. Massarelli, Office of the Chief.

We were also very happy to reconnect with Sergeant B. Scott Hughes, who joined WALEC for our Police Family Day Proclamation Ceremony at Liberty Plaza at the Georgia State Capitol on July 23. It was wonderful to see him again and continue building the relationship between WALEC and the Johns Creek Police Department.

We sincerely thank Major Coble, Investigator V.B. Massarelli, Sergeant B. Scott Hughes, and all the officers and staff of the Johns Creek Police Department for their warm welcome and for sharing their time and experience with us.

WALEC will continue working to strengthen communication and trust between law enforcement and the community and to help build safer, healthier, and stronger communities.

WALEC is honored to welcome U.S. Congressman Dr. Rich McCormick as an Honorary Advisor of WALEC.

Congressman McCormick represents Georgiaโ€™s 7th Congressional District (GA-07) in the U.S. House of Representatives.

GA-07 is a diverse and growing part of North Georgia and the greater Atlanta metropolitan area, covering communities across six counties โ€” Cherokee, Dawson, Forsyth, Fulton, Hall, and Lumpkin.

The district includes communities such as Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Cu***ng, Dawsonville, Dahlonega, and portions of communities including Ball Ground, Holly Springs, Buford, Flowery Branch, Gainesville, Oakwood, and others.

Congressman McCormick brings a unique background of military service, medicine, and public service. He served approximately two decades in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy, including service as a Marine helicopter pilot and as an emergency medicine physician in Afghanistan. He currently serves in Congress on the House Armed Services, Oversight and Government Reform, and Science, Space, and Technology Committees.

His connection to Korea is particularly meaningful to WALEC and the Korean-American community.

During his service as a U.S. Marine, Congressman McCormick trained alongside the Republic of Korea Marine Corps in Pohang, South Korea. That experience gave him firsthand exposure to Korea, its people, and the strong bond between American and Korean service members.

His understanding and appreciation of Korea and the Korean-American community make his involvement with WALEC especially meaningful.

WALEC is committed to building stronger bridges between our communities, law enforcement agencies, military leaders, and public officials, while promoting public safety, service, trust, and mutual understanding.
