Today, WALEC visited the memorial of Officer Travis Clarke.
The Lawrenceville Police Department holds a special place in our hearts as WALECโ€™s first partner police department. We paid our respects and honored Officer Clarkeโ€™s life, service, and sacrifice, while extending our deepest condolences.
We encourage members of the community to visit the memorial, take a moment of quiet reflection, and pay tribute to a young officer who dedicated his life to serving and protecting others.
Even a brief visit can provide comfort and support to Officer Clarkeโ€™s family and to the men and women of law enforcement who continue to serve our communities with dedication every day.
Although his watch has ended, Officer Travis Clarkeโ€™s service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers remain with his family, friends, and all members of the Lawrenceville Police Department.

"In honor of Badge #296, we remember and pay tribute."

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Honoring Our Fallen Heroes ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

On May 15, WALEC was honored to attend the Law Enforcement Wreath Laying Ceremony held at the Gwinnett County Police Training Center during National Police Week.

This solemn ceremony was a time to remember and honor the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage, service, and unwavering dedication to protecting our communities will never be forgotten.

This yearโ€™s ceremony carried special meaning as the family of fallen Gwinnett County Police Police Officer Senior (Badge 2741) was in attendance. Officer Tamang made the ultimate sacrifice earlier this year while faithfully serving and protecting the citizens of Gwinnett County. Their presence served as a powerful reminder that behind every badge stands a family whose sacrifice and strength must also be honored and remembered.

National Police Week traces back to 1962, when signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week โ€” ensuring that America would forever recognize the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and their families.

As a gesture of deep respect and remembrance, WALEC proudly presented a traditional Korean-style memorial wreath, symbolizing honor, gratitude, and unity in remembering our fallen heroes.

We remember the fallen. We honor their families. And we remain forever grateful to those who gave everything in service to others.

โ€œGreater love has no one than this: to lay down oneโ€™s life for oneโ€™s friends.โ€

We recently held an official meeting with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire to discuss building a cooperative framework for reporting insurance and fire related crimes and supporting victims within the community.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to connect with Deputy Commissioner Derek Lyman and Deputy Director Melissa Jones to discuss collaboration and community safety initiatives.

Derek Lyman is a veteran investigator with more than 30 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career with the Atlanta Police Department in 1992 before joining the United States Secret Service in 1996. During his 22 years of service, he investigated financial crimes, counterfeit currency operations, and international fraud cases. He also served in Washington, D.C. as a member of the Presidential Protective Detail and Counter Assault Team. After returning to Georgia, he served as a Senior Special Agent overseeing federal investigations across 18 counties in central Georgia, while building strong cooperative partnerships with state and local law enforcement agencies. Since 2022, he has served as Director of the Criminal Investigations Division at the Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire, leading investigations into insurance fraud and various financial crimes.

Melissa Jones has dedicated more than 24 years of service to the State of Georgia and has served with the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire since 2019. She is highly respected for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to developing and supporting those around her.

WALEC looks forward to strengthening this partnership and continuing to work together to enhance public safety and support victims within our communities.
