🔨 Roofing Reality Check
Myth: Gutters aren't really part of your roofing system.

Reality: Your gutters play an important role in managing the water that flows off your roof. When they're working properly, gutters and downspouts help direct rainwater away from the roof, siding, foundation, and other vulnerable areas of your home.

When gutters become clogged with leaves and debris, water can overflow or back up, potentially contributing to moisture damage and other roofing problems.

As fall approaches and the leaves start coming down, don't forget about your gutters. Keeping them clean and functioning properly is an important part of protecting your entire home. 🍂

🧱 Code Corner
Proper roof drainage is an important part of protecting a building from water damage, especially as we head into the wetter fall months.

The International Building Code (IBC Section 1502.2) requires roof drainage systems to be designed and installed in accordance with the plumbing code. This includes properly directing water away from the roof through drains, gutters, scuppers, and other drainage components.

Blocked or inadequate drainage can allow water to collect on a roof, increasing the risk of leaks, deterioration, and unnecessary stress on the roofing system.
As fall approaches, make sure drainage systems are clear and ready to handle changing weather and falling debris.

🍂 Roof Ready Wednesday
Fall is just around the corner, which means now is a great time to make sure your roof is ready for the season ahead.

Leaves, twigs, and other debris can collect in gutters and roof valleys, preventing water from draining properly. When water has nowhere to go, it can back up beneath roofing materials or overflow near your home’s foundation, potentially leading to costly damage.

Before the leaves really start falling, take some time to clear existing debris and check that gutters and downspouts are flowing freely.

A little fall preparation now can help keep your roof—and your home—protected throughout the season. 🏠
