🧱 Code Corner
Flashing may not be the most visible part of a roof, but it's one of the most important when it comes to preventing leaks.

The International Residential Code (IRC Section R903.2) requires flashing to be installed in a manner that prevents moisture from entering the wall and roof through joints, including around chimneys, skylights, roof intersections, and other roof penetrations.

Properly installed flashing helps direct water away from vulnerable areas and protects the roof system from costly water damage.

When it comes to a roof built to last, the details matter.

During the 2026 GARCA Annual Convention, we were proud to honor two outstanding individuals whose leadership, service, and dedication continue to strengthen our association and the roofing industry.

Congratulations to Matt Mobley, Technical Sales Representative at Sika Sarnafil, on receiving the Boone Noblitt Award. Matt has served on the GARCA Board for four years and is passionate about supporting the next generation of roofing professionals through workforce development. His commitment to the industry and to GARCA makes him truly deserving of this recognition.

Roofing professionals spend more time in the sun than most, making UV protection an important part of every workday.

As temperatures climb this summer, remember to help protect yourself and your crew by:
🧢 Wearing a wide-brim hat or hard hat with a sun shade when possible
🕶️ Using UV-blocking safety glasses
🧴 Applying broad-spectrum sunscreen throughout the day
💧 Staying hydrated and taking breaks in shaded areas when possible
