It can be used in tea, steam bowls, infused oils, hair rinses, bath blends, massage oil, room sprays, or dried bundles. The key is to use it gently and avoid treating it like a miracle cure.
Fresh or dried, rosemary is one of those herbs that feels useful in so many corners of the home.

Butterfly populations across the United States are in alarming decline, according to a 2025 study in Science, with total abundance falling by 22% in just 20 years. ⁠

Such widespread and worrisome losses portend broader environmental threats and emphasize the urgent need for conservation action. “Our national-scale findings paint the most complete—and concerning—picture of the status of butterflies across the country in the early 21st century,” write the authors.⁠

The authors also note that butterflies have the potential for rapid recovery under favorable conditions, highlighting the importance of proactive conservation strategies to prevent further declines and to support long-term population stability.⁠

Mullein Harvest Guide: What to Pick and How to Use It

Mullein is easy to recognize once you know what to look for: soft fuzzy leaves in the first year and tall yellow flower stalks in the second year.
Harvest clean leaves and flowers only from safe, unsprayed areas. Dry them in a warm, airy place and strain tea carefully because the tiny leaf hairs can be irritating.
A simple wild plant, but one that should always be identified correctly before use.

CSNC NEWS: 🌳 TRAIL ADVISORY — CASCADE SPRINGS NATURE PRESERVE

A large mature oak has fallen across the Spring Trail near the Spring House, completely blocking the trail and affecting a section of the boardwalk leading toward the waterfall.

⚠️ Please use caution and do not attempt to climb over, crawl beneath, or cross the fallen tree.

The tree is located just east of the intersection of the Gateway Trail and Spring Trail. Access to the Big Leaf Magnolia Trail remains available, but visitors should use caution around the Spring House and Spring Trail area.

The Cascade Springs Nature Conservancy has reported the fallen tree to Atlanta Parks, and the request is being routed to the appropriate City team for assessment and removal.

Celebrating the Next Generation of Community Leaders

Today, we had the privilege of recognizing Andrew Solano for successfully completing his PIN Summer Internship with the Cascade Springs Nature Conservancy and welcoming him as a Cascade Springs Nature Conservancy Fellow.

From May 11 through July 31, 2026, Andrew served as a PINtern through the Center for Sustainable Communities Research and Education (SCoRE) at the Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems, Georgia Tech. During his internship, he contributed to projects that advanced urban forest conservation, community engagement, sustainability planning, grant development, and the Atlanta Nature Center initiative.

At today’s Partnership for Innovation (PIN) Emerging Innovators Ceremony, Andrew joined students from across Georgia in presenting his work during the Fellow & PINtern Poster Showcase, celebrating a summer dedicated to innovation and community impact. It was an honor to present him with both an Internship Appreciation Certificate and a Cascade Springs Nature Conservancy Fellowship Certificate, recognizing not only his accomplishments over the past twelve weeks but also his continued commitment to our mission.

Andrew’s curiosity, professionalism, and passion for community-engaged sustainability have made a meaningful difference at the Conservancy. We are excited to welcome him as our second Conservancy Fellow and look forward to seeing how his leadership continues to grow.

Congratulations, Andrew, and thank you for an outstanding summer of service!
