This event is in partnership with the Decolonial Feminist Collective, scholar-organizers across disciplines utilizing internationalist and decolonial approaches in political education, movement, and solidarity-building. This strike is a call for faculty to refrain from teaching and administrative duties for 48 hours, and instead utilize that time to facilitate and participate in public teach-ins about white supremacy, police violence, anti-Blackness and racism.

Colleges and universities have a responsibility to both educate their campus communities, and to take necessary action to address the ways in which racism and violence structure institutions of higher learning.

Today is . Black women make up a disproportionate amount of the labor force — 80% of Black women are the primary breadwinners for their household, and about two-thirds head households alone.

Black women are also among those most likely to earn a postsecondary degree. However, despite the fact that Black women are enrolled in and graduating from school in the highest percentages across racial and gender lines, wage disparities exist across every sector. Even Black women who are highly educated, such as those working as physicians and surgeons, make just 54 cents for every dollar paid to their white, non-Hispanic male counterparts. This disparity is striking and speaks to the pervasive inequity that Black women face whether they are employed in low-paying or high-paying fields. This also makes the ongoing fight for livable wages and other labor fights important. is .
