🚨Disclaimer: Long Post
Yesterday IALAS raised over 5K with one of our biggest supporters getting their employers to match their donation‼️ Thank you so much for the support❤️🔥This wouldn’t have been possible without of all our supporters who believe in the vision.
The thing that makes this powerful is that is that I have anxiety around asking for help, money, etc. On the day I launched my first fundraiser back in 2020, I had a whole anxiety attack. This campaign I felt a little bit of anxiety but I didn’t let it paralyze or make me start acting out of fear. This is important because many of us have been taught to think we shouldn’t ask for help. In the end, every one needs help.
On the contrary this shows us the power of collective economics. It shows us that if we put our minds, money and hearts together, we can be a powerful force for securing a better future for our youth and families.
An old African proverb said “If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together.”
Last point: No matter how much we desensitize ourselves to the calamities that plague black and brown communities(drugs, violence, police brutality), they affect us all in one way or another. Anything is possible if you believe and are willing to put the work in even when it doesn’t feel good.
Again, thank you so much for all supporting the vision of IALAS to increase the economic competitiveness of black and brown communities starting right in the nations capital!
With Love,
Ashley McMichael
