Deer Pageant applications due in 2 weeks

👑 We are now accepting applications for the 2026 Deer Festival Scholarship Pageant!

Open to Jasper County students in K4 through 12th grade. Applications are due Friday, October 16.

• $50 application fee includes two pageant tickets
• Register and download applications at ThomasPersonsHall.com
• Printed applications are available at Jasper County schools and the Chamber of Commerce

Meeting Thursday to discuss the Pond

Academy Springs Park and its pond are an iconic part of the Covington landscape. To address the ongoing issues with the pond, GWES, a contracted engineering firm, is currently working on the design plans for the pond's rehabilitation. Please join us for a public meeting to hear about these plans as well as have an opportunity to give input:

Tree applications for the annual lights at legions are available tomorrow.

Lights at Legion will return to Legion Field for the 2026 Christmas season with the Lights at Legion Kickoff and Mistletoe Market (applications open separately for the Mistletoe Market at the end of October/beginning of November) on Saturday, December 5, 2026 from 6 PM to 9 PM at Legion Field.

If your business, family, or organization are interested in purchasing a tree for the Lights at Legion display, which will line the track at Legion Field from December 5, 2026 to January 3, 2027, tree applications will open on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Meet Junie, a sweet 9-year-old girl who finds herself in a shelter through absolutely no fault of her own. 💔

Her owner was moving and, heartbreakingly, would have had to abandon Junie if they couldn’t find her a safe place to go. So now, after years of having a family, Junie is left wondering where she belongs.

At 9 years old, Junie should be spending her days feeling safe, loved, and cherished — not sitting in a shelter wondering what happened to her family. 🥺

The good news? Junie reportedly does well with dogs, cats, and children of all ages. She sounds like the kind of wonderful companion who could fit beautifully into a loving family.

She didn't do anything wrong. She wasn't unwanted. Life simply changed around her, and she was the one who lost her home.

Please don't let Junie's age make you overlook her. ❤️ Senior dogs have so much love left to give, and Junie deserves the chance to spend her next chapter surrounded by people who will promise her that she is home — for good.
