Over the past 25 years a virtual tidal wave of intellectual and liturgical coonery washed over the Black Church and sullied if not washed out to sea so much of what was left of our power and wealth. The sheer nanity of men with degrees who tout Gardner Taylor as a beacon and then sell out to a spiritually cheap quasi -(white) evangelical pentecostalism that Gardner warned against and despised should be enough to send a chill through all of us, There seems to be no one with the authority to draw a line. Well no one Black. The reason the Black Church is so damn confused is because both the far liberal left and the Racist Evangelical right HAVE THEIR THEOLOGICAL STOOGES, MIMES, MASCOTS and PARROTS and their way of rewarding them for the DEVASTATION WROUGHT ON MY PEOPLE. NOTE always money and status keeping our leadership bottled up in their frames of reference while the BLACK CHURCH, dazed and confused flounders for an IDENTITY just when you thought you found one. We tout rouges, thieves, con men, pimps in the finest pulpits and greatest "intellectual" stages in America if they are shiny enough for whatever purpose we have planned. The crocodile nearest the boat i guess and the GOSPEL, Truth, STANDARDS, VALUES the THE FAITH be damned. NOTE: Word of caution. GOD IS ALWAYS THE CROCODILE NEARST THE BOAT.

I am at once amazed and terrified at how much is in the air of this moment. We are in a historical cyclone that has lifted so much debris we failed to haul off from other storms down through the years that escape by either earth, wind or water is fraught.

Our truly HEROIC VPOTUS may provide the counter weight to the other candidates's toxic draw on certain demographics through policy statements but I am concerned. She is up against a problem not of her own making which serves however as the ballast in her own boat. It is firmly rooted in contemporary resistance to modern mass-media trends that have gone way to far and are still in overdrive. A more surgical approach to these issues in specific settings would have remedied this issue quickly. But the people around her swim the same waters drowning the voice of the disenchanted. Whose disenchantment, by the way, runs along a continuum populated by most Black people and with good reason. We need voices to talk to our folk who can clear things up. The time is past when a simple emotional or manipulative sentimental appeal to the conscience based on the activism of other times was enough to ralley the troops. We need an appropriate vision for our own time and an appropriate political approach to a rich, authentic diversity. I hope this can come from the Church. We will see.
